It seems to me that Washington's main drawback is he lacks the strength of character, the mental fortitude, the determination to triumph over adversity that a top fighter has. Say what you like about Wilder having been kept clear of the top heavyweights (until this year) but there's no denying he demonstrates these qualities that Washington lacks on a regular basis in the ring. You don't normally get to the top in boxing without it.oogiebe wrote: ↑26 Dec 2018, 15:41OMG! I actually agree with this 100%.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑26 Dec 2018, 05:12 Washington is, sadly, more skilled but he'll get outworked. Kownacki is arreola with stamina. Not good![]()

and that's one of the reasons why Washington has no more than 5% chances vs fighter like Kownacki

Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
i can see Kownacki beating other fighters on Washingtons level and better fighters too, he already beaten Szpilka and Martin, imo he would be a favourite against Wach, Helenius, Ruiz, Takam, Hammer, Duhaupas, Kabayel, Kuzmin, Hunter, Chisora, 50/50 due to styles difference vs Hughie, 50/50 vs Jennings and Breazeale, 40/60 vs Whyte, he would be a live opponent vs Parker, Miller and Pulev too, Povetkin and Ortiz are aging but those versions of them that we have seen recently would be too much for AK, i can see Kownacki causing some problems vs Wilder but of course he would have very very small chances to beat him, he's a no hoper vs Fury and Joshua.
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
he could beat better guys, but going much beyond washington and i lose the same confidence in him winning, i just dont think hes that good
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Really?
I would expect him to beat Chisora, Pulev, Ruiez Jr, Joyce, the two Chinese blokes, maybe Brazeale, and give Whyte a run for his money. Sure he is basic and uses his face as defence, but the sheer relentless volume of his attack, and strenght of his chin would give some of the slower HW's problems.
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
I expect Kownacki to beat the crap out of Washington in spots, and get jabbed from a distance in the rounds where he's sluggish. I figure Washington will have more inactive rounds than Kownacki, and Kownacki will win a decision. It'll be a decent win for him if he can stop him.

Washington is almost the size of Martin but he will try to fight like Kiladze did, Washington lacks heart to last the final bell and he lacks punching power to keep Kownacki away, i also suspect that Washington has a rather weak stamina. Washington is just not good, he's only good in like first 4 rounds.

Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Martin won ~3 rounds, 97-93 is the most correct score imo, 98-92 would be generous for Kownacki but acceptable, 96-94 would be generous for Martin but acceptable too. Kownacki was way too fat in this fight, he was like 263lbs i think, for Washington he will be 245-250lbs.

i would certainly favour Szpilka though it's a close match-up. Kownacki vs Washington has the level of competitivness of Whyte vs Helenius or other fights like that.

Might be a draw with Szpilka
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
szpilka and washington are close in level, though szpilkas a nut and really dumb at times

Will anyone be surprised IF Washington beats Kownacki? regardless of how he does it.

I pick Washington to take the decision. Yes, I may be an idiot.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Dec 2018, 15:20 Will anyone be surprised IF Washington beats Kownacki? regardless of how he does it.

Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
i would be shocked, it would be a much much bigger upset than Chisora's win over Takam
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Just watched Washington/Nofire. Much more aggressive Washington under his new trainer, Shadeed Suluki. I hope we see this for the Kownacki fight. Could turn out to be a good watch. Washington got a late start and obviously has room to improve, but one never knows.

Kownacki is very good at beating fighters that have a better jab than him. He wears them down, gets inside and roughs them up. I think Washington may have stamina issues, and if he gases out after 5 rounds it will be all Kownacki in the second half of the fight.

For anyone who wants to watch the full fight:
or just highlights:
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Washington showed uncharacteristic aggression against Nofire from the opening bell, and despite reverting to type, remembered sporadically to go after him at various times in the fight.
Washington would have known that his opponent had been battered and stopped by Joey Abell. No disrespect intended to Joey who's a respectable puncher, but Nofire was wide open to everything thrown at him. Knowing your opponent has been recently exposed by Joey Abell is not going to inspire dread in a top 30 Heavyweight.
Washington is something of a 'flat-track bully'. He knows he is a level above the likes of Abell or Nofire, and so he is not troubled by self-doubt. The problem won't have gone away though. He's not going to be putting it on Miller like that or most of those heavies rated above him.
It's a shame really. Gerald looks a very imposing presence. He can move and he can box. He has a good jab and respectable punching power. If he had his buddy Breazeale's psychological toughness and will to win he could be a genuine contender instead of the fringe variety.
