I could see Louis, Foreman, Tyson and maybe Liston possibly knocking out Marciano, but that would be about it. Tyson had the best chance simply because of his combination of speed and power...it doesn't matter if he had fizzled out in two years...Tyson at his very best was an absolute monster and a viscious knockout artist...it would have took the best that Marciano had to last with Tyson at his best, but if anyone could last...Marciano could! Riddick Bowe at his very best would have been hard to deal with also!

dont most agree that Shavers had the best punch power of all? Not sying Marciano couldnt beat him, but his punching power in unmatched.Crease wrote:I don't think that Shavers had the puch power, I could see Marciano beating him. Tyson did tire too easily, so that wasn't gonna happen, I think Rocky would beat Liston...
I THINK GEORGE FOREMAN had the best chance to KO Marciano...

Too true! There have been many, many fighters of the past who were thought to have had too good of a chin to be knocked out, but in every instance a perfectly placed punch has proven otherwise. One of recent memory that comes to my mind was Simon Brown. Brown was considered to be damn near indestructible until Vincent Pettway caught him with an absolute beauty of a left hook which knocked Brown out as cold as any fighter I have ever seen! Gene Fullmer is another good example…as tough as they come with an out standing chin yet Sugar Ray dropped in one of the prettiest left hooks in history and out went Fullmer. Dick Tiger is another...a victim of Bob Foster. Any fight, any…can be knocked out with the right punch!

If Marciano could get past the first 3 rounds then I see him breaking up an increasingly frustrated Tyson and stopping him...Migz wrote:^hmmm yer maybe.. but Tyson was a devistating puncher and actually possessed boxing skills unlike Marciano.... i think Tyson woulda been to much for MArciano but its something i have to think about
Tyson fought at 222 .. Marciano at 185.. its 37 pound difference! man so much smaller wiith no particular reach or skill would have been gone in 1. .. but Commaan .. Tyson had excelent conditioning and workrate in his prime all 12 rounds. He could have beaten Rocky with only reach advantage and his jab.silkov wrote:If Marciano could get past the first 3 rounds then I see him breaking up an increasingly frustrated Tyson and stopping him...Migz wrote:^hmmm yer maybe.. but Tyson was a devistating puncher and actually possessed boxing skills unlike Marciano.... i think Tyson woulda been to much for MArciano but its something i have to think about

KO? Doubtful. TKO? Yes. But, like Joe Frazier, I think Rocky would always find a way to get his burly legs back under him before the ref hit 10. The ref would have to stop it cuz Rocky would never quit.

u can make a case that charles would beat him, but charles knocking rocky out is quite ridiculous.. i even felt Charles coulda knocked him out in his prime..but we may not all agree with that now will we!
charles still had all his power when he faced rocky, and in 23 rounds was unable to stagger rocky let alone floor him.
charles may decision rock at his best, but to say he would knock rocky out is quite laughable
tyson, louis, foreman, liston all could knock rocky out........
but the real question is would they

marciano more than made up for lack of boxing skills with incredible brute strength, ackwardness that made him hard to hit cleanly, inside fighting, and powerMigz wrote:^hmmm yer maybe.. but Tyson was a devistating puncher and actually possessed boxing skills unlike Marciano.... i think Tyson woulda been to much for MArciano but its something i have to think about
marciano was a technician in his own way. if he wasnt, he would have never been able to beat master boxers liek moore, charles , walcott

I'd say Frazier could have koed Marciano as well... any fighter with the ability to force Rocky back and take his punches would have had a chance against him..
frazier would not be able to take rockys punches though. i cant see frazier knocking out marciano, since he didnt have that deadly two fisted assault.

the thing with marciano is we never seen him tested by a big elite puncher during his career like holyfield, chuvalo, etc did so we dont know if rocky can take there punches . but then again, nothing as shown us on film that rocky wouldnt be able to take there punches.
my question to boxrec is.............wut does everyone think about the fact we have never seen rocky badly hurt, stumbling around on rubber legs or out on his feet on film? i mean seriousely, has anyone ever seen rocky badly hurt on film? even the walcott moore knockdowns were flash KD's with rocky up at 2 on steady legs .

Marciano was said to have 'ran' EVERYDAY rain or shine, holidays or not while he was at the top, his legs certainly show it. He was also supposed to have used a 300lb 'heavy-bag', the point is Rocky was not a classy boxer, rather a crude fighter and he/everyone knew it.
He trained for strength, endurance and power and there have been lots of examples of fighters you could beat on all day and they just 'don't' stop coming at you. Rocky was one of these fighters, although his 'strength, powerful punches and endurance didn't afford too many of his opponents the luxuary of getting close enough, often enough to beat on him all day!
Could he have been sent into 'lala' land buy a true big hitter, of course but you had to get to him first.
The best example I can think of is Freddie Mills, a true L-HW who endured the 'beatings' of lots of big HW's and still kept going, Mills was as strong as a bull, my grandfather said he was the strongest man he ever fought and Bert fought at least 10 ranked or World classed HW's... and look what happened to Freddie in a 'ligitimate' L-HW bout against the beautiful boxer, cagy mover and KO puncher Lloyd Marshall. Freddie didn't even know he had been hit he was OUT ON HIS FEET, a few more rounds and knock downs and it was over, one of the finest fights I have ever seen for finess, style and perfect hook and punch power - Marshall.

So your telling me Foreman has a good shot at KO'ing Marciano and not Tyson? Even though Tyson punched just as hard as Foreman and had much better handspeed to go with it. Both Tyson and Foreman will swarm Rocky early and your hatred of Tyson is simply idiotic.Decagon wrote:I don't think that Shavers was talented enough to stop Marciano. Tyson petered out too quickly. I'd see Marciano weathering Tyson's initial onslaught and then stopping him. I'd give Foreman, Louis, Liston and Lewis a good shot at it.
