I think it's a bridge too far. The corner are employed to protect their fighter and I think a referee should respect their wishes if they want to pull their man out.
the ref was terrible in the cotto fight, foreman was taking a prolonged battering from an obviously superior and uninjured fighter, getting hurt while hardly being able to stand or fight back. there wasnt the slightest hint he could turn it around either

ridiculous that anyone would praise that ref
Apparently some thought Cotto was finished by time this fight came around. I think maybe because he lost to Trout.
IMO there should always be a full 10 count issued unless a fighter is in clear immediate medical danger such as convulsing etc. Other than that a full count should be issued which might be pointless in many cases but it removes all doubt and controversy.
