So hard to believe that Tommy "The Duke" Morrison would have turned only 50 today. A tragic story with more twists and turns than dime store novel. Morrison had tons of talent in the ring, but unfortunately had a larger penchant for the girls and partying, which ultimately led to his downfall in boxing, as well as life.
He gave us excitement and thrills, but also was the victim of one of the most brutal KO's I've ever seen in his loss to Ray Mercer.
Happy Birthday Tommy! We miss you.
Happy Birthday Tommy Morrison
Re: Happy Birthday Tommy Morrison
My favorite boxer ever. I like his methodical approach of destroying people. His technique was impressive, his power was huge. If only his stamina and chin were better, he could have repeated the success of Tyson. But his demons appeared to be even stronger, than Tyson's ones.
Yeah, he had both brutal ups and downs. Hipp, Williams and Ruddock fights were classic slugfests. Mercer fight as well, Tommy was overconfident, which led to tank emptying and getting KOed in a scary way. However, I'd still name Johansson's KO over Machen the most brutal one. There the ref was even later.
RIP, The Duke!

Tommy may have been the last of the great white hopes. When the Klitschkos hit the scene the term seemed to disappear. Loved watching him come up on ESPN. The only time I rooted against him was in his fight with George Foreman.
He once said (this is close anyway), "A fishing pole, 12 pack, and red head is all I want."
