Simpson has great amateur credentials (detailed in the link above). Good article about Truck in the following link:JMac wrote: ↑31 Dec 2018, 12:45They call him Truck. Here's a brief video interview of Lorenzo and Devin Haney:
Re: AMATEUR STANDOUTS WHO RECENTLY BEGAN FIGHTING AS PROS
It's shame so many good US amateurs like him don't stick around for the Olympics. But coming from where they do, you can't fault them for going for the money. Olympic golds don't mean as much as they used to for US boxers and there is always the chance of getting robbed like Floyd and Roy Jones even though they did OK to say the least.Best Coast wrote: ↑01 Jan 2019, 18:38Simpson has great amateur credentials (detailed in the link above). Boxrec list him as Gonte Lee, he'll be inaction in Tokyo on the Ogawa vs Aldea card in a few hoursBest Coast wrote: ↑02 Feb 2019, 03:30Thanks for the heads-up!! The confusion over his name is due to how it's transcribed, with old amateur fights having him listed as Ri Gonte (or Gonte Ri). Or Kun Tae Lee, due to his Korean heritage.
His debut will be a 6 round bout against a Thai
Here's his boxrec, though I suspect a changing of his name will occur IF G+ who televise the bout follow Teiken's spelling http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/864506

He won already but his BoxRec profile shows him as born in Japan. I thought you said he was North Korean. Are they letting exiles compete for NK now? He's pretty tall for a super lightweight at 5'11".Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑02 Feb 2019, 03:37Boxrec list him as Gonte Lee, he'll be inaction in Tokyo on the Ogawa vs Aldea card in a few hoursBest Coast wrote: ↑02 Feb 2019, 03:30Thanks for the heads-up!! I said he competed internationally for Korea ;), he's a third generation Korean in Japan. Here's an article about him competing for Korea (In Japanese https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/new ... 00880.html), he did so in a couple of major international events (including the 2018 Asian games where he fought as Ri Kon-Thae)Best Coast wrote: ↑02 Feb 2019, 18:48He won already but his BoxRec profile shows him as born in Japan.
