Rumor Mill: AJ vs Miller at MSG

Post by oogiebe »

Rumors are flying that Anthony Joshua will forgo a fight with Dillian Whyte in favor of having his American debut at Madison Square Garden against Jarrell Miller.

Whyte has reported no contact with Eddie Hearn with regards to the April 13th fight at Wembley. Whyte is expected to meet with Hearn sometime this month, and it is expected that Whyte will be told that he doesn't have the fight. It's also expected that Miller will cancel his January fight with a still undetermined opponent, if he gets the matchup with AJ, and that this is the reason why no opponent has been named for his January bout.

Stay tuned. I'm not sure if I'm buying it, but I'd like to see AJ/Miller. Bad news for Whyte who has fought his way to this shot. Maybe he'll get step aside money, who knows.

Why would Whyte get step aside money? He isn't a mandatory.

I reckon AJ will fight Wilder in April.

I said maybe. I figure he'll be named mandatory. An assumption that may be proved incorrect. Regardless, the boxing community mostly figures Whyte has fought to earn the title shot.

The story goes further in that Whyte was quoted as saying, "I'd love to fight for the WBA regular title." That would be vs Trevor Bryant.

The fight was on the 22nd. Hearn was lucky with the Wilder vs Fury outcome so now he can make the pointless Whyte rematch. Whyte is worried for no reason.

Which fight was on the 22nd? AJ is scheduled for April 13th, and Miller is currently scheduled for January 18th.

With the 18th being 13 days away I'd guess Miller isn't fighting

Right, that is why it gives some credence to the rumor. I'm not saying I believe this is happening, but it's fun.

I cant imagine it was cheap to book nor can i see Hearn being able to fill even half without a Joshua.

Makes me think that its a nonsense rumour :TU:

I don't know the financial details of the Wembley deal, but I do know is that there is only one fighter listed on the card thus far. I'm sure Hearn would work out some future deal with the stadium to soothe their pockets, and besides, there is probably a cancellation clause with a due date on it. ANyway, that's why they call it rumor! :OhYes:

I think Povetkin was both WBA and WBO mandatory when he fought Joshua. The only fight on the verge of being ordered would be Pulev. I think honestly Hearn couldn't reach a deal with Don King with the Bryan fight as to why that won't take place.

Pulev would be a joke. I hate the sanctioning bodies more than hot death.

Shouldn't we all agree that Jarrell Miller is not ready?!?

He's weighed in well over 300 lbs for 3 consecutive fights. AJ would drown him in under 5 rounds.

He caries his size well enough, the problem is Miller's name isn't big enough yet. I dislike Whyte and see no need for the rematch but he's done enough to earn a title shot.

Have you heard Whyte's recent interviews? He's not exactly humble either.

I don't consider Chisora or Browne to be the greatest wins in the world (awesome knockouts though). Parker already arguably lost to Ruiz and Fury, he isn't anything special either. Watch Whyte's fight with Helenius, he looks to be one of the poorest schooled fighters at HW. It's not uncommon for fighters to speak foolishly. They all do.

he wouldnt be that bad, he beat chisora way easier then whyte did and hughie easier then parker did. you get lots of worse challengers out there then the #6-8 guy in the division. can we really say that fury or wilder or povetkin or ortiz etc have more then 1 win obviously superior to pulev?

obviously we hope for someone more interesting though
