Who are your 2019 boxing prospects (try to pick guys who are not Olympicians)

Joey Spencer: This kid is dynamite, for an 18 year old he's strong as fornicate and a good inside fighter who loves to dig in hooks to the body.

Efe Ajagba - 6'6 and 235 LBS with an incredible 88" wingspan. While he won't be in title contention this year, I do expect that he'll take a step or two and by end of year be knocking on the door of the 20-30 top HW's. He's young at 24 and is under the tutelage of Ronnie Shields who is enamored with the kid. Born in Nigeria and fighting out of Texas. Huge hitter and very athletic as he's an ex footballer. I hope he isn't rushed!

Dont want him rushed but they need to find him guys to go rounds with. He boxed for 6 mins total in 2018. Training is great but you need some time in the ring to develop as well, 1 minit knock-overs wont teach him anything about boxing at the top level. So yea, hope they step him into some Kevin Johnson types with hard head type faded contenders.

Yes you are correct. He needs to step up this year and have fights where he can learn about himself, as well as gain the necessary rounds of experience. Turnbows won't do that. He'll need a couple of more (good) fights before he can even think of Johnson level, IMHO. Maybe even three or four, as we really don't know yet how he'll react with a live body in front of him. He has all the tools to be very exciting to keep an eye on. I think I saw where his handlers are saying six fights in 2019. I would rather he had more depending on the opponents levels.

Kevin johnson hardly threw a punch in his last fight. i dont think thats a step to far and if it is, then thats troubling for ajagbas future.. mabey 1 more fight befor it, try desperatly to find a guy that can go 3 rounds (might have to tell ajagba to just jab and move, no rights...). you obviously dont want to lose at prospect stage, but you also cant afford to miss out on learning fights if your ever going to be world levle.

No, you don't want to miss out on learning fights. Johnson is a stiff, but a very experienced stiff (ok, that made me laugh). The kids only 24, and relatively new at the sweet science. As he and his handlers state, they are going to take their time. Maybe by mid to end of year, he'll be ready, but I don't think he is now. Can't go from Turnbow straight to Johnson. Regarding matchups going forward, they obviously need to find some guys that can give him rounds, as stated by prior poster. I think a semi-tough but light hitting journeyman would be more in order. Maybe that's Johnson and I'm wrong, but we'll see how it shakes out.
