Most of the hyperbole comes from Vitali being ahead on the cards against a career heaviest Lennox Lewis who was originally training to fight a pudding called Kirk Johnson.

No doubt, Joshua has a better resume already. Not even close really. I'd say Sanders, none are of note really. Waste of a career
TO be completely fair though there wasn't anyone around... Wlad best wins/toughest fights came at the end of his career (Haye/Pulev/Povetkin/AJ/Fury)

The ring's rankings 2004 were:
Chris Byrd
John Ruiz
Hasim Rahman
James Toney
Monte Barrett
Andrew Golota
Fres Oquendo
Jameel McCline
Corrie Sanders
Lamon Brewster

Take Byrd out of the question, none really give Vitali problems at the time

Rahman, Ruiz, Toney, Golota and Brewster are better than literally anybody he beat. Plenty of scope for Vitali to get cut or injured against those boys.

HW Toney wasn't amazing. His brother beat Brewster and Rahman. Vitali maybe should've fought him post Wladimir win but he was retired then (for 4 years at least). Brewster got his shot vs Wladimir so it's not like Vitali dodged him. Golota was passed it in 2004. Beaten by John Ruiz then sparked in a round vs Brewster, I can't have seen Vitali having any sleepless nights over him

For the record, I don't think Vitali is a GOAT or has an amazing record I'm just trying to be objective, no one in that list around 2003/04 could've beaten him. Byrd is the only question mark... Ruiz had some form at the time. Toney got done for PEDs a year later

1. Toney was amazing at first. His dismantling of an admittedly very old Holyfield was impressive and in 2005 he made light work of John Ruiz.
2. "His brother beat Brewster and Rahman"--I thought we were discussing 2004? Brewster and Rahman were both shot when Wladimir fought them, years later.
3. Actually, most people had Golota beating Byrd and Ruiz. Also, getting KOd by Brewster is no disgrace, ask Wlad!

What heavyweight champion has the best resume in history would you say? Id have to say the great Ali
Ali and Louis are clearly 1 & 2. Either order works for me.

It's kind of you to give him wins he never earned. Imagine if Jones never fought tarver? Anyway that's a perfect list to show vitali fought the weakest of the weak in a weak era.

What makes him different than wilder past all of us thinking he was better? If the roles were reversed wilder would get brutalized for pulling out of several fights against rahman, retiring, and coming back 4 years later.

You credited his brother for beating the two best ones, literally years later when they were washed up! Byrd beat him and Ruiz, Rahman, Toney, Golota and Brewster--in 2004--are better than anyone he beat.

He really did fight the weakest available names.

Remember who they had him booked to fight on the Lewis/Johnson undercard?

Cedric Boswell!

They really weren't very brave with Vitali, were they? 32 years old, 3 years since he lost to Byrd, and he's taking aim at Cedric frickin' Boswell!

What's great about some of these threads that it makes me go back and 'refresh' my memory. Looking at many of Vitali's fights and even his highlight reels, my opinion of him got even worse. He's not even a good watch, save one fight and some moments.

If you ever imagine what a 19th century boxer would like fighting in today's sharp, digital TV definition, just watch Vitali Klitschko. Him versus Wilder would probably look like an enlarged duplicate of Fitzsimmons/Corbett.
