Liam Smith Signs With Eddie Hearn/Matchroom

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

MTK Global’s Liam ‘Beefy’ Smith (26-2-1-KO14) has agreed a three-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.

The popular Liverpudlian is moving on amicably after many successful years under the guidance of allegedly and Queensberry Promotions.

Now 30, the former WBO super-welterweight champion of the world is looking forward to challenging for the highest honours once again.

Smith said: ”First and foremost, I just want to say a massive thank you to Frank for everything he has done for my career.

“It was under Frank I won the world title and challenged twice more for the belt and I’ll always be very appreciative.

“It’s a little bittersweet to be moving on but I just felt that at this stage of my career a change would serve me well and I’m happy to be joining a great stable in Matchroom.”

Queensberry Promoter allegedly was quick to wish Smith well, adding: “It has been a pleasure working with Liam. We’ve had a great ride and I’m proud of what we achieved together. I now wish him all the best for the future.”

Not me.

Potential Brook opponent at 154 if the Khan fight doesn't get made?

Think Hearn is planning a Liverpool show for March time, Beefy will be on that. Then maybe on a DAZN card as he's known to American fans after the Canelo and Munguia fights. Then finish the 3 fight deal with a Brook fight.

Don't think Fwank will give a monkies really. You'd have to pay Liam half decent money on the comeback trail and I don't think there is much fan demand to see him come back. Packaged as part of the Smith clan all on the same bill, I guess it is significant in Liverpool but otherwise.... good luck to him, but I don't think Fwank will care. Knowing Fwank, he will probably give Liam Williams a big push now.

Surprised it had not happened earlier and I am surprised he was ever with Queensbury with the other three tools at Matchroom already and Tesco Joe's fighters mainly being that side of the fence too .

I also thought there was rumours of this happening when he fought Liam Williams the first time. I recall reading posts here about Fwank obviously wanting Williams to win as Smith was Matchroom bound.

Eggington is a likely opponent I hear.

If Beefy is headlining then Callum won't be on the bill... so Eddie is doing a show in Liverpool. Eddie has a RING Magazine champion from Liverpool. Said champion isn't on the card.

As good as he is, Callum isn't a massive draw. And as well as he did to win the WBSS, fighting behind a paywall on ITV Box Office 3 times won't have promoted him to the masses. DeGale and Eubank are tied up. Immediate Groves rematch is unlikely. Canelo probably goes back down to 160. Unless GGG moves up I can't think of an opponent that would warrant a PPV? And if he's not on PPV then why is he not headlining a show in his own city? :maybe:

Probably won't get invited back after doing that to Eggington

Can't believe (well I can, but still, it shouldn't happen) that Eggington can get battered around the ring by an unknown Tanzanian for 2 rounds and then headline a show in his next outing. Wouldn't mind as much if we were getting 2 fight nights a month on regular Sky but it feels like we only get about 6 or 7 a year these days.

He could I'm sure but the money he would want now probably means that normal Sky money wouldn't cover it even if he did sell out the Echo but yes it's a shame that he won't be fighting on this but it's not going to happen and Gallagher has allot of say in Callum career.
He will either be chief support on the 13th in a routine defenceif AJ fights at Wembley or he might get some US DAZN money for a fight over in the States.Gallager isn't going to let him take short money in5 a standard Sky show,I read Crolla's book,Joe thought Crolla-Linares should of been ppv ha.

Hearn put Brook vs Frankie Gavin as a PPV. Brook vs Beefy will certainly be on PPV with all the bells & whistles thrown in to hype it up.

It's a 50/50 fight i guess. Leaning towards Brook.
