What are people’s thoughts on promoters also managing boxers?
I saw Gavin Rees kicking off on Twitter because Craig Evans (who I think Rees trains) was pulled out of a British title eliminator purse bid against Joe Cordina.
Would have been a decent all-Welsh fight.
Apparently FW pulled Evans out of the purse bid without letting Evans know or even discussing and Evans and Rees are pretty pissed about it.
Surely you can’t act in the best interest of a boxer in a managerial capacity when you’re also their promoter.
It’s not allowed in the US (I think it was part of the Muhammed Ali act) but I’m surprised it’s still allowed over here. Thoughts?

Hatton is a promoter, manager and trainer.
I’m pretty sure he manages and promotes at least one fighter.

Hope Frank got something lined up for Evans would have been a decent payday for him , not much money in a defence of his WBO European belt

I think it creates conflict of interest and unfair practices.
Don King used to use his son to be manager in order to control every aspect of a fighters business.

It made me hate promotors for life. My bias is unrepentant.

Re: Promoters who also manage fighters
one thing i dont get, haymons supposed to be an advisor not a promoter, so why when these guys turn down hearns offers do they reference him compared to haymon and say haymon pays them more?
Re: Promoters who also manage fighters
Because Haymon is a promoter and a manager. The whole 'advisor' role is just a made up title so he can get around the Ali act.
