How full was TD BankNorth for Hatton - Collazo?
How full was TD BankNorth for Hatton - Collazo?
I have a cousin who lives in Worcester Mass, he attended the fight and said a lot of tickets were being given away and the venue was just over half full.
Anyone know?

It was free-to-air therefore the gate matters very much indeed. HBO and all TV companies like full venues to create a big-event. This looked awfulTerence wrote:In the US it is not about tickets on site but PPV. That is what Warren does not explicate. He can fill an arena in the UK but can he sell to as many homes as HBO can? In the States the TV target is far wider and the live gate not as Biblical as it is here.
and Hatton must have wonder what the fornicate he was doing walking past row after row of empty seats.

Your knowledge of the Boxing Business is nothing but limited.Terence wrote:'Chat, it is about speculating to accumulate. I know the fight was free to air but you can bet that his future HBO forays will not be and it may kill you to admit but Ricky excited many people. Your employer may love big gates but are you trying to tell us HBO will be killing themselves over empty seats when they have the three main guys at Welter at their disposal? Did HBO pay Hatton a huge amount to merely spite Frank or are they looking at big PPV sales down the line? Frank may be a god of the live gate here but in the US he is a TV alter boy in comparison, HBO may not get MEN figures from Frank promotions but they've done alright without them. Not too long ago no one went to watch Floyd fight but he still made money. Live gates or no live gates HBO will make a killing and next time Ricky fights in the US fans will know what to turn out for.
I imagine Ricky forgot, if he ever thought, about the empty seats when the fight began. Plus the small crowd made a pretty big noise and gave the fight the thumbs-up, as far as I could hear.

Hatton relinquished a true world title he won against an all time great in Tszyu, with 220,000 UK PPV buys and a sold out MEN, and he was the Challenger.Terence wrote:Well then expand it or look foolish (or churlish depending on your mood). PPV is a bigger spinner than live gates. Why did Sports Network try to get Audley Harrison-Matt Skelton on PPV after years of anti-Harrison ridicule? Because an arena is finite in terms of numbers. If you get 16,000 people in a UK arena and put the event on PPV what is your buy potential? 6,000 in an arena in the US and PPV and the potential is dwarfed.boxingchat wrote:Your knowledge of the Boxing Business is nothing but limited.Terence wrote: 'Chat, it is about speculating to accumulate. Ok now, and 'Chat we are about to move to another demographic (which means a change of country also so do keep up), as arena's are finite in numbers PPV has a much more wide reaching allowance, if an arena is full you cannot get into the fight, PPV has potential to be far wider reaching, you can subscribe, as many people I know in the US did, on the day of the fight. Say you sell 6,000 US tickets and call it a flop, well how many more PPV outlets have you got in the UK (at this point I should point out that the US is bigger than the UK).
To recap. Say 6,000 people watch a fight at an arena in the 'States and 16,000 people watch it live in the UK, in terms of money figure A will not be grotesquely bigger than figure B given the vagaries of exchange and inflation. Now say the same fight is watched on PPV in the UK and the US. The US intake will be bigger. At this point I may have to explain the notion of speculating to accumulate to you but rest assured that it means HBO will feel comfortable with the fight. It is still being talked about and keeping Ricky hot, in fact has it never occurred to you that in keeping on about Ricky constantly you add to this in a tiny way? Therefore PPV for Hatton Vs a big name (not TBA, Joe is fighting him in Wales) will be big and money will be made.
Incidently if you do work for SN you could educate me about the boxing business. For example how do you take a red-hot commodity (Joe Calzaghe for example) and seemingly dump him below Williams-Skelton and put him in versus TBA when he is coming off his biggest ever win? Or is that another strand?
Incidently, your love for the sport of boxing is nothing but, well nothing. Nada. Zilch.
He then fights Maussa and gets the WBA strap, so far so good except his UK PPV sales were less than half the Tszyu fight, and the Sheffield Arena he fought in was at best 70% full.
Still he had two belts at 140, was recocnised as the worlds no1. He had Cotto, maybe Gatti, Corrales and Castillo to fight at 140
Then on the advice of his new team he ditches the belts and moves to 147 to fight what his promoters consider the weakest of the champions and wins a razor thin decision which could have gone either way. In interviews subsequent to the fight Hatton, being candid, has stated that he is too small for Welterweight and Collazo's power hurt him.
Wait till Margarito hits him.
Hatton seems to know whats best but it looks like he has little say in the matter. It seems to me he didnt want to leave Warren, it seems his Dad, Hobson and Waterman did.
Where does Ricky go now?
Stay at Welter and fight blown up 135 and 140lbders?
or
Move back to 140 without a belt and with a slightly dented reputation.
You ahve to concede that his status as a champion has fallen since the heights of the Tszyu victory.
From his post Collazo interviews Hatton looks completely pissed off with so many mangers and promoters being involved in his career.
As far as matchmaking and assessing a fighters skills go FA know exactly that (FA)
A very poor matchup for Hatton, although Don King will be delighted with how Collazo's star has risen.
Collazo was meant to be the sacrificial Lamb, instead he's Rocky Balboa.
King must be laughing his bollocks off, especially with a rematch clause.

The Welterweight title was merely leverage for making a fight with Mayweather, and was obviously what HBO wanted Ricky to do.
The problem for Hatton now, is that he will need to pick any fights at Welterweight very carefully. Urkal is a boring fight, and is his mandatory, cannot see HBO going for that one and it's not PPV worthy. So what does Hatton do now? If he moves back down, he has no leverage and all the big fights are half a division above and he no longer has a belt as far as I am aware, or does he get his WBU belt back if he chooses not to keep the Welterweight title? I forget now, don't you have a period of time in which to choose whether to keep hold of a belt you just won or not?
Difficult waters to negotiate for Hatton now, either swim with the bigger fish at Welterweight, and risk being gnashed, or move into a smaller pond where there's smaller fry to be had.
I guess there are a lot of Welterweights that Hatton can beat, but picking and choosing them might not be that easy, and the fights aren't that marketable unless he taking on the elite.
I think a fight at 140 against winner of Castillo v Corralles is a good marquee fight, then try and make the fight with Mayweather.

Sure, but a fight with Floyd has to be built. HBO won't want Hatton to fight Floyd next, neither do Floyd or Hatton. Hatton needs a sandwich filler before Mayweahter. Mayweather wants DLH next, so it's not going to happen this year anyway. A fight with Gatti seems most probable to me, as Gatti isn't a genuine Welter, is long in the tooth and hittable and their styles make for a good fight. It also allows comparison with Floyd's performance.
Castillo/Corralles is surely the other option, unless Hatton fancies taking on the guy who beat Aiken, who beat Perreira. That looks a risky fight to me, the guy is very very strong, and boy can he hold a shot.

Gatti knows he cannot beat Floyd, however, what about Oscar v Gatti at 154 or a catchweight? I reckon that could be a very big fight and a last bout for both men.
Gatti is still popular, and beating Baldomir gives him a legitimate belt. Am I being silly here, I can see some sense in it.
Does Oscar believe he could beat Winky though?

I was there and there were about 8,000 there... in other words the same as there were there for Calzaghe v Lacy in MEN... most of the fans were Brits, I'd say mabye 4000 were British... the noise level was great throughout but esp in last and first rounds... I had a great time... and while I buy tickets to Frank and FA shows I must say that Frank has shown his arse on this July 7 show big time... he ripped into Hobson about not having a opponent for Ricky even though Hobson signed a oppoent and he pulled out injuried at nine weeks to go and then had a replacement at eight weeks to go (Collazo)... well it is SEVEN WEEKS before "Sicknote" fighting in Cardiff and STILL no opponent so maybe Frank should shut his newly nip/tucked gob next time

6,000 or 8,000 it leaves between 10,000 12,000 empty seats and thats before you count the freebies.Paul Powler wrote:I was there and there were about 8,000 there... in other words the same as there were there for Calzaghe v Lacy in MEN... most of the fans were Brits, I'd say mabye 4000 were British... the noise level was great throughout but esp in last and first rounds... Tszyu and Maussa were said to be disappointing so they try a THIRD PPV with Ricky??? Greedy bastards.... f- em!
