Hughie Fury vs Joe Joyce Delayed again by BBBoC

Post by oogiebe »

January 10, 2019
A potential heavyweight title clash between Hughie Fury and Joe Joyce has been delayed again by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Thursday’s circular did little to explain the situation at heavyweight as Fury is marked down as injured for a second successive month.

They further state Fury may decide to vacate or wait until Joyce announces his next opponent and officially makes an expected pull-out.

Having only just fought a world title final eliminator, it’s not thought Fury will be looking to go back to domestic level. But it’s not out of the realms of possibility.

Joyce is also looking at the top end of the world rankings for his next opponent, having recently made his US debut under Al Haymon.

An eliminator between Nathan Gorman and Daniel Dubois, which could be fought for the vacant strap once Fury vacates, has been called off until things become clearer at the top.

Hughie needs a few easy touch fights.
He is not world class and I honestly believe he losses to either Joyce or DuBois.
He has a good following so take a few easy fights and try and cash in on a big fight

I guess, if Joyce or Dubois don't hurt and/or stop him, they'll just outwork him pretty comfortably. Definitely they aren't a good choice of opposition after a convincing loss.

Does he have a good following?

Fury won't want anything to do with Joyce. He will vacate his title and avoid him.

It’s a real shame because this would be the best British HW title fight since...?
Certainly ups the quality from Cornish vs Sexton !

It's the exact same thing the Fury's did when Price was made mandatory. If they thought Hughie could beat Joyce the fight would be on.

The thing is, I think its ok to know you are most likely going to get beat but its a decent payday, then you can move on so a defeat or 2 on your record is no big deal. The issue is here is that Joyce would beat Hughie royally he would knock Fury out inside 2 rounds. I dont think a defeat like that is what Hughie wants. That is very high stakes for little gain.

Uhm, he failed in a world title final eliminator, so did not show he is above being at domestic level.

Most would pick Joyce do give Hughie a right spanking. Clear avoidance. He'd land so hard on his back that those spots will explode and cover ringside in the white stuff

I would expect JJ to flatten HF but I am not certain that he would bother with the contest.
How highly regarded is the British title in America?
It is prestigious here but national titles around the world are generally a lower level than the British and many countries have a number of national titles which dilutes the perceived quality.

I think Joyce would struggle to land and win an uninspiring decision. Fury isn't easy to hit and Joe is as slow as they come.

Nope, that’s just one of those untrue things that people like to say, like ‘did you know Marilyn Manson was the best friend from The Wonder Years’.

He's accurate but he has the hand speed of breazeale.

Slo Joe is an enigma. Seems so very athletic but punches (more power though) like Big John Tate...slow and ponderous.

He's much slower than Tate.

Hughie Fury is the least intriguing heavyweight I’ve seen. If you gave me the option of him fighting someone like Bogdan Dinu, or getting to see Dave Allen fight a binman, I’m picking the latter.

Surprised everyone thinks Joyce is so far ahead of Hughie. Fury, if a little busier, would have lots of time to move, pick and poke. Joyce is solid, methodical etc but he’s one paced in the fights I’ve seen and will find it hard to set himself against a moving target.

What on earth does this mean? Anyone who watches Joe Joyce can see that his hand speed is as slow as pudding. If not, maybe link us a clip which shows his hands moving fast? Or even at average speed for a British level heavyweight?

If this fight isn't happening they should just hurry up and both move on. Let Gorman and Dubois fight for vacant belt.

There is definitely some kind of bizarre optical illusion at work with Joyce, his shape or something perhaps, I don't know what causes it.
BUT.
Watch his contests and don't look at him, look only at the opponent. They are moving at full speed and they are getting hit.

If Joyce beats Stirvene, he will look past domestic titles
