WOW GGG vs Canelo III starting talks for Cinco de Mayo ; The best fight for Golovkin, period!

Post by apollo creed »

“Canelo Alvarez is fighting two to three times this year, and fighting the very best. Last night, I had preliminary talks with Golovkin’s people. So we threw it out there about fighting for a third time. Cinco de Mayo is the biggest week in boxing in Las Vegas. So we’re starting talks. Canelo is open to anything. Canelo is a fighter who wants to fight anybody to be great, and so a third fight is a possibility. We’re starting discussions, and we’ll see where it leads from there,” De La Hoya said. from boxing news 24

:box:

The best route for GGG. He ain't gonna fight for peanuts at this stage. Saunders was just a rumour or probably the B plan.

They fought 24 rounds to (essentially) a draw. They need to have a third fight.
Edit - For even if you think Golovkin edged the first, surely Canelo did better in the second. That is what I think anyway. I have it 13-11 rounds GGG.

Tbh I had the first fight won by GGG and the second fight won by Canelo but GGG showed that he still has it. If the third fight is gonna happen and GGG is not going to hit and move much more I'd expect Canelo to dominate old GGG.

What is interesting on Canelo is how sharper on counters and anticipation he is. He's a truly elite fighter. It would be very hard for someone to beat Canelo as he gets better and better. Probably the father time. Anyway GGG is gonna get again a nice payday.

Previous 2 fight was entertaining, ive had first fight 116-112 or 115-113 for GGG, second 114-114 or 115-113 for Alvarez. For me, more than scorecard controversies is important these was very good fights best vs best. BTW possible third fight brings one more good thing: Jacobs, Charlo, Andrade, Saunders, Lemieux and Brant should face each other if they wanna some decent payday. Feel a bit bad for Danny Jacobs, because he deserved big payday against Alvarez and it would be very good fight too. But for the rest of these guys, no easy money !!! On the other hand, won´t be surprised if De la Hoya brings some Lemieux or Osullivan bullsh!t

Indeed those guys should fight each other to build up their profiles. They won't get Canelo or GGG if they are not willing to take some risks to enhance their profiles. As for Jacobs, yes I agree but it is what it is. Jacobs vs Charlo or Andrade would be some interesting fights. :TU:

Jacobs vs Jermall
Andrade vs BJS
Winner vs Winner = would be a new star at 160 lbs and it would draw the attention of Canelo and the people.

Golovkin's already beaten him twice, and been told he didn't win. I have no interest in seeing this fight again. They'll never give Golovkin a fair shake. Even if he knocks out Canelo they'd probably find a way to disqualify him.

It is what it is. As I said before GGG is chasing big money fights at this stage/age and the only name that I know who generates this kind of money is Canelo. (160 lbs)

I don't fault Golovkin for wanting the biggest money fight out there. If I were in his position I'd probably want the same thing. It's just that as a fan this doesn't interest me at this point because there's no reason to believe it will be a legitimately officiated or judged contest.

Tbh I don't see what could be the point for a 37 y/o GGG to fight a younger risky fighter and put a poor performance/ be defeated or even worse get robbed for less money. :-?

I don't know, prior to the last bout I thought all this talk about GGG getting old overnight was premature but he didn't seem to be himself for whatever reason until the last couple rounds perhaps. It could be that he was pacing himself for the end and gave away too many early on. But if Canelo is the person to send GGG off into retirement then I guess that is just their destiny. Might as well get on with it then. On the other hand, maybe GGG can improve on the second fight. All it takes is a massive punch to alter things.

Yeah, probably GGG's game plan was to give all in the later rounds when Canelo was tired. But Canelo was very well prepared.

The first two were really great competitive fights. I had GGG winning the first one and a draw in the second one id really like to see a third one. What worries me is that it has the potential of going 12 again and I would hate that again discussions are about the decision instead of how good of a fight it was. Hopefully we get a clear winner with a matching decision.

As for G's options id say its the best one. Ever since the Jacobs fight hes looking like a human and 154-160 looks like its shark infested. Going straight for the money fight makes sense.

Couldn’t agree more. I’d never sign a fight with Canelo. There’s no way to beat him because he can’t be ko’d. Judges will never allow him a loss on cards. No shot

I'd rather take a fight I'd lose for 20 Million than a fight I'd win for 4 Million personally, but that's me, and apparently a lot of other guys too.

At the end of it all the money is what it's all about.

Golovkin and his family are set for life. There is no reason to deal with Canelo/DLH and their Vegas gang of crooks.

It is like with Pacquiao Marquez, somebody would have to win the fourth fight by a knockout and then back away from the fifth.
