Devin Haney vs Xolisani Ndongeni
First televised card of the year this Friday on B-Nation, battle of the unbeaten Lightweights, Ive seen Haney a few times he's decent boxer, quite flashy and quick, coming off a convincing decision over Burgos, promoting shows at 19 year old is pretty bizarre though
Never heard of Ndongeni but he's unbeaten as well and has a MD win over Fana, I quite like the look of Haney, broke a few rules against Burgos so he could do with polishing things up a bit this time seeing as he looks better boxing guys, never seen Ndongeni but hopefully he could prove a test for Haney

Haney is the 2nd coming of SRL.
Re: Devin Haney vs Xolisani Ndongeni
That's a bold statement! Now I have to youtube.
Re: Devin Haney vs Xolisani Ndongeni
He's no SRL. Only in the taunting department. He's 20 so we'll see in time, but I don't see SRL hand speed and instincts, which SRL had from the get-go.
Re: Devin Haney vs Xolisani Ndongeni
I just found out about this particular matchup. I wish I had known about it a few months ago I probably could've scored a press pass to this thing it's pretty close by.
Re: Devin Haney vs Xolisani Ndongeni
I haven't watched Haney yet but I'll look out for this one.

Worth a watch for a bit of pre-fight background.

Re: Devin Haney vs Xolisani Ndongeni
Haney wins a wide UD over Ndongeni, a shut out on 2 cards as well as mine and 1 judge gave Ndongeni a round, Haney had Ndongeni down in the 2nd from a short right hand, put Ndongeni on the seat of his pants and it looked like it could be a short night but credit to Ndongeni he was tough and awkward, lots of herky jerky movement and Haney struggled to land the power punches clean, his jab was top drawer though, quick, strong and purposeful and that was the shot that won him the fight really, Ndongeni couldn't get out of the way of it and it continuesly snapped his head back, some nice right hands as well tagged Ndongeni clean
Haney did get a bit wild when unloading combinations but he is only 20 and Ndongeni was a tricky customer, TBF to Ndongeni he was no slouch himself and he came in with the right mentality and some of the rounds were close but Haney's jab made sure he was always a step ahead, Haney nearly had Ndongeni out of there in the last but Ndongeni was teak tough as they say and took it to points

He'll win a world title these days (odds on my dog might win a world title, these days) but anyone who looks at him & thinks "Sugar Ray" needs their head examining. As oogiebe said, he doesn't have the instincts or ability to put them together like SRL, & I don't think his timing or relative one-shot power is as good.
He is strong & heavy-handed but he's not a devastating hitter, IMO—though he'll stop more with experience, obviously.
A competent young fighter, nonetheless.

Totally agree. Ndongeni showed heart to stay in there and hear the final bell, took some crisp body shots but dug in to be fair to him.Datsue wrote: ↑12 Jan 2019, 14:49 He'll win a world title these days (odds on my dog might win a world title, these days) but anyone who looks at him & thinks "Sugar Ray" needs their head examining. Haney's better than I originally thought. For all his skill, speed and power I wasn't convinced he could work at pace and still be effective, but he provide he could against Ndongeni.
Ndongeni was as game as they come, but Haney is almost ready for a world title shot. You have to stop and remind yourself that he's only 20.
