Good fight this for Joyce.

Yeah, real good matchup. A bit of a test (little step up) but not expecting any threat whatsoever. Joyce within 6. Next matchup for Joyce, assuming he dispatches with Stiverne, should be top 25-30. Ortiz?

A decent step up for Joyce, well-timed, considering he is already 33!!

It's barely a step up if Stiverne comes in like he did in Wilder 2, but it's the name that Joyce had been looking for. Should get him a better ranking across the board.

Hopefully this isn't the version of Stiverne from the Wilder rematch that threw 4 punches, landed 0, and went to sleep in the first.

It’s finally a decent name at least. It’s difficult to imagine Stiverne being motivated beyond getting paid, but nobody should mind this as a nice undercard bout.

It appears that Joe Joyce treats sparring sessions as if they’re "real" contests, which is an approach I don’t endorse, because he's more focussed on "winning" rather than developing his ring craft, so assuming Stiverne turns up in decent shape, this video suggests that the Haitian may be sturdy enough to last the distance, only to drop a wide decision.

However, my gut instinct tells me that Joyce will be facing a 40½-year-old 260lbs+ bloated version of the former WBC world heavyweight champion, which will inevitably result in a stoppage victory for the Brit within three rounds.

This is an opportunity for the Brit’s handlers to showcase Joyce’s talents and present him to the UK market, against a big-name opponent, as some sort of indestructible behemoth. They’re seeking a highlight-reel knockout to build a false reputation against past-their-prime opposition.

This is not going to be a competitive bout, despite the fact many mainstream casuals from the UK will be excited to see a fellow Brit decimate a former world heavyweight champion.

Stiverne is just a name, he's not even top 100 now.

I think Pre WIlder, Stiverne would've been a dangerous opponent for Joyce who stands in the pocket too long... Bermane's short jab and counters could've been a problem. Now i think he stops him early giving him no respect.

I thought he's going after Ortiz. Good way to start the year but I hope he goes after a top 10 HW like Breazeale or Parker.

Stiverne is one of the few fighters I don't walk up to and talk to. He has a really nasty disposition. Remember when he almost fought Jarrell Miller in the gym?

He always seemed the brooding and troubled type with a surface of an inflated ego. One of the few fighters I have disdain for.

 No version of Stiverne would've been a threat to Joyce. Stiverne was lucky to get his title since Vitali would've destroyed him if he didn't retire. Stiverne is the guy that got dropped by Derric Rossy. He's never been a threat to anyone unless you're only as good as Arreola.

This is a step down from Lenroy Thomas. Stiverne isn't much of a name since that embarrassing showing against Wilder.

This isn't a step up as Stiverne has reduced himself to the status of a big fat bum, but he is a name.

Jarrell Miller goes to a gym? :o :oo

That's a shock to me as he looks like he does his training at Los Pollos Hermanos, or some other fictional or non fictional fast food outlet.

Stiverne is shot to bits. If this takes over 2 rounds for Joyce I'll be questioning if he is a possible contender or not

Yes a step up in name only. I would expect the fight to be inside 5 minutes. Will still be his best opponent at this stage.

I don't ever see Joyce as a serious contender. Shockingly slow hands.

Why? Just because he's painfully slow and wide open? It won't be this fight, but as soon as Joyce fights a decent boxer, he'll be exposed for what he is. A slower version of Big John Tate.
