Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao rematch ‘to be announced on Saturday!'

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao rematch ‘to be announced on Saturday,’ believes Eddie Hearn"

The promoter expects the fight to be confirmed for a September date

Rumours have been rife of a potential second meeting between the two boxing legends after they agreed to fight again at a Japanese music event in September.

Pacquiao is set to face Adrien Broner on Saturday night in Las Vegas after signing with Mayweather advisor Al Haymon.

It is known that Mayweather will be ringside for the bout and one rival promoter believes this is for a deliberate reason.

When asked simply for his prediction on the fight, Hearn told media: “Pacquiao points, wide. I don’t see Broner as the guys that’s gonna force the action.

“I think Pacquiao’s gonna be in and out, nicking rounds.

“I see him winning and then they’ll announce the Floyd Mayweather fight for September in the ring on Saturday night.”

Mayweather fought Pacquiao in May 2015, beating him by comfortable unanimous decision in what was financially the biggest fight in boxing history.

After the bout – which underwhelmed in the ring – the Filipino claimed to have been suffering from a shoulder injury that hampered his performance.

The American won an exhibition bout against the massively overmatched Tenshin Nasukawa in Tokyo, Japan in December and insists he remains retired.

Regardless, there is still speculation he will return for the rematch, especially following his encounter with Manny at an NBA game last week.

Thoughts?

I’d love to have one more crack at seeing Floyd’s ass on the canvas even if it probably won’t happen. Worth my $100

If Pac-man is impressive vs Broner, I'd bet Floyd would wiggle out. Amen on your post.

Interesting for the big event atmosphere that it still might generate and that window is almost closed. Pac would need to look really good against Broner.

I see it going pretty much like the first one unless Floyd has slipped a lot in recent years and even still Pac would have problems laying a hand on Floyd even if at 60% of what we saw in the first fight.

I don’t want to see a rematch between two fighters in their forties, as it’ll mean nothing.

If Floyd wins, then so what? If Manny wins, then all he’s done is beaten a 42-year-old past-his-prime version of a man that hasn’t engaged in a competitive fight in four years.

For sure, Money May’s haters will be utterly delighted to see the Filipino legend inflict a loss on Mayweather’s record, but the outcome of this fight won’t mean anything from a historical perspective, regardless the result.

The only reason why a potential rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao is likely to be a commercial success would be due to a hell of a lot of gullible people enthusiastically handing over their hard-earned cash to see boxings’ most infamous villain finally get his “comeuppance”, but is such a circus event type spectacle really worth the $100 PPV fee, since it’s not a meaningful fight?

I think not, because both fighters would inevitably receive monster pay-cheques to increase the size of their retirement funds.

The only real “losers”, regardless the outcome of the rematch, are the morons willing to pay the $100 PPV fee.

No interest, Manny could never beat Floyd. Though he could have forced a good fight at the height of his ped days. He'll do shit again and make excuses.

Part of me is hoping for Broner because the Pacquiao family is already set for life. I'm just a little bit worried that Broner will blow through all this earnings.

Broner is brain damaged. I really think so. Here's to Pac-man shutting Broner's idiotic mouth.

That's a lovely sentiment.
At least someone is thinking of the children.
Problem is, excessive spending is like an addiction, only Broner can help himself. Alas, he will most likely do the opposite of what any normal person deems sensible or astute regarding finances.
Fact is, Broner is voted most likely to end up broke or in jail or both.

For Broner to win he will have to fight a near perfect fight combined with Manny getting old overnight but I wonder if he did if Floyd would entertain fighting Broner. Just imagine Floyd vs Broner, at last lol.

I can't stand Broner, but if this rumour is true, I hope he beats Pacquiao so convincingly that Mayweather can't try to foist a repeat of their crap past prime fight on us again.

Broner has the slimmest of a punchers chance. The fact that he can't counter is a huge problem against Manny.

I honestly can’t stand these people that are SO against this fight. How does it hurt you? Just don’t tune in and watch whatever it is that you normally watch on Saturday Night. The real FANS of Boxing love this idea because it’s once again pitting two of the greatest boxers in our generation for one last attempt at glory. How in the world is that bad? You aren’t losing money because you’re not buying it so let the real fans enjoy speculating about this fight because it’s the best part of these types of fights. The discussions. The build up. Go post about stuff you have interest in and don’t go spitting on every steak on the grill. We don’t need your opinion because we love it.

I lost money with a buddy because I bet him that before Floyd truly calls it quits that he fights GGG. My bet is still alive somewhat but had GGG’s undefeated record not get stolen by judges, I truly think that Floyd would fight GGG within a couple of years.

My point is that Floyd’s hoping for great performances by his possible opponents because he knows how much more money he can make by beating them. So I disagree with you. I feel that the opposite will happen. If Pacquiao loses or wins ugly then I think that it hurts the chances of Floyd hitting another cycle of Winstrol V and fighting Manny again. There has to be big money there or he won’t bite.

Honestly asking - Is Broner that terrible? I'm thinking it will be competitive or he'll do a bit of damage, all relating to Mannys advanced age.

I think Broner has a real shot at winning. Manny has aged considerably in the past few years.
This fight is as close to 50-50 in my opinion as you can get.
This is not the same Pac of 5 or 10 years ago

So do I. We could however be hugely wrong. :OhYes:

I was speaking to someone on here about Broner being a lesser version of J Clottey. Although Manny peppered Clottey all night, he couldn't down him and used a huge amount of energy, constantly on the offence (If I remember correctly). At Mannys current age I don't believe he can keep up that type of work rate. Maybe Manny won't approach it like that but its the only similar situation I can recall. If Mannys activity has dropped, Broner can have success. I also just flat out don't believe the Lucas Mattysse fight. The punches that Manny threw didn't seem to have much on them but had a huge effect - looked strange.

I'll will give Manny credit if he does a job on Broner, I think its a very solid win given his age and I'll look more kindly on the Lucas M fight but we will have to see this one first.
