RIP Jorge Linares Career
RIP Jorge Linares Career
It just ended. What an awful awful AWFUL loss.
Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
Totally effing called it! Linares' kryptonite are strong Mexican brawlers. Got me some good points on BP game.
Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
Hope you bet it.
Linares closed as a -5000 favorite.

Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
I wouldn't ever bet on Cano. He's extremely, extremely underrated, but he does sometimes come in just to lose. He did this against Alan Sanchez. He didn't even try.
This was Cano backed into a corner heading into irrelevancy, and he needed this win.
Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
Cano hasn’t beaten anyone good in years.
Linares fought like a jackass when he clearly was not recovered. When you get stung like that you don’t stand and brawl to appease a bunch of drunk idiots in the crowd who share your heritage. He should’ve been in recovery mode the rest of the round. Not stand and brawl mode. He’s been around forever and should know better.

I've not seen a fighter that has such consistent losses to a single racediddy wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 00:07 Cano hasn’t beaten anyone good in years.

Very true that Cano hasn't beaten anyone good, but at the same time, he's been showing shades that he's still there. He looked really good against Madiev who they were definitely trying to feed Cano to. He runs hot and cold, very cold oftentimes.
Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
Looking closer to Cano’s resume he did beat Mauricio Herrera a couple years ago. And is only 29
And the naturally bigger guy. Considering all this the -5000 odds were way way too wide. Linares got a major odds boost from the whole giving Loma a fight thing. Take that fight away and the odds here are probably like -500 instead of -5000.

Had I picked Cano with such odds and didn't bet, even a small wager? I'd shoot myself in my F'n head!diddy wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 00:19 Looking closer to Cano’s resume he did beat Mauricio Herrera a couple years ago. And is only 29

Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
Reminded me of the Yeyo fight... same conclusion after it too
Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
He’s older now. He’s too small at this weight against normal 140 lbers. 135 or nothing for him. Cano looked massive.
Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
I thought he was done after the bloodbath to DeMarco. Respect to Linares for reinventing himself and winning a world title, but he's Amir Khan-esque, flashy hands but can't tough it out.
Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
Cano did look ridiculously large, but I think it's more styles here than anything. I still think Linares could beat Hooker. Weirdly enough, he'd probably lose to Saucedo, though

Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
Yeah, Loma rematch, other title opportunities - it all is gone now.

He got hit with that shot on the neck just below the ear. Boxers never recover from that shot!

Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
Linares has always had a somewhat soft quality to him.
Not a guy that ever deals well with punishment.
Mentally, he's far from tough. Onetime trainer Freddie Roach has called him a quitter. Basically says he lacks heart.
Cano is a decent fighter. Fought well, but not well enough, against veterans Morales and Mosley.
He has always been looking for a signature win. He finally found one last night and maybe his reward will be a title shot.

Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
Shocking. I wouldn’t call him a quitter for getting up 3 times against a guy that clearly outsized him fighting with his boxing career on the line. They asked this kid to retire prior to this fight so he had to let it all hang out. Horrible opponent for step up in weight. I’d stay away from any Mexican in that scenario

Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
The vasyl fight appears to have taken its toll mentally... Linares is a very decent fighter having a very good career but maybe coming up against the calibre of Loma has sucked the confidence out of him.. he needs a break and a long chat with his advisers whether to call it a day.. only hel know...

Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
He has had extremely similar losses, while going against bigger swarmers. Let's see if he also recover this time
Re: RIP Jorge Linares Career
I don't know. two of his last three fights he was KTFO. At least the first one was a close fight with Loma, but this one was pretty devastating. He's 33 and hasn't learned what to do when he's hurt, I fear. Give him kudos for bravery trying to fight his way out of it, but he really should've been holding on after the first knockdown to clear his head for the rest of the round. IMHO.

Think plenty said the same after Salgado did him... And Thompson...
