Re: Kubrat Pulev vs. Robert Helenius - April 20, 2019
At his age surely Pulev needs to be looking at positioning himself for one last title shot? He's never been amazing but in the era that Eric Molina gets 2 shots I'd be surprised to see Pulev retire having only fought for the title once. And unfortunately for him it was Wlad's last truly great performance.
Does a win over Helenius move him any closer to AJ/Fury/Wilder? I'm not sure it does. Makes me think he's happy seeing out the last couple of years of his career picking up some wins in Bulgaria where he's probably a big name and gets paid well. But then fighting Hughie - no name recognition, awkward style, possible loss, doesn't bring money to the table - wouldn't fit in with that, so he must have at least one eye on the rankings.

Another convincing win by Pulev - or a win by Helenius looking as tho he has gotten back to his old form - would make either one a top commodity . I am guessing a KO by Pulev, but anything can happen.
Re: Kubrat Pulev vs. Robert Helenius - April 20, 2019
Wow, a good matchup. And very close, I'd say, despite the majority being sure in Pulev. But Helenius appeared to be impressive in his last fight. Of course, now he's facing an absolutely different type of an opponent, but something tells me, Helenius can do it. Both of them are good jabbers and Pulev is better in it, he is arguably the best today in outjabbing his opponents. But Helenius can be sharper and his punching power is bigger. My pick is Helenius by a late KO/TKO in a close fight, which he will probably be losing with a little gap prior to delivering the stoppage.

Pulev knocks out Helenius, I Personally think Helenius is not that good, he proved that against Duhaupas, Whyte beat heam easily and Chisora was robbed against him...

Helenius has a decent chin. Pulev’s main attribute is jab. He’ll out-box him over 12 rounds. Can’t see a KD.. maybe a rtd.SoulSavior28 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 04:53 Pulev knocks out Helenius, I Personally think Helenius is not that good, he proved that against Duhaupas, Whyte beat heam easily and Chisora was robbed against him...

Helenius has power, Pulev doesn't have much power. Helenius' last fight shows that he's still has something left. He's still very dangerous. Yeah, the Duhaupus fight was pretty humiliating, but Duhaupus was a top-ten fighter after that victory.SoulSavior28 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 04:53 Pulev knocks out Helenius, I Personally think Helenius is not that good, he proved that against Duhaupas, Whyte beat heam easily and Chisora was robbed against him...
I'd not want my fighter that has a mandatory spot fight Helenius right now. It's a bit like David Price who dropped Povetkin in their fight. These big guys that are decent with huge power are always ridiculously dangerous.
Re: Kubrat Pulev vs. Robert Helenius - April 20, 2019
Helenius struggled in two fights with Yury Bykhautsou, FFS! Teper was a soft flabby version of himself. Pulev will have Helenius on the end of his jab all night.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 16:07Helenius has power, Pulev doesn't have much power. It only takes one punch, dude. Pulev is substantially better, but Helenius has power. Teper was always flabby. Joey Abell also has power. You used words like "Dangerous; " "Huge Power;" "Ridiculously dangerous." I wouldn't say Helenius fits into any of those categories. All HW's have some power. Now you merely say "Helenius has power." Get over yourself already. BTW: Teper was 'soft' looking in that fight, even for him, and certainly isn't an opponent I would use to rate someone as "ridiculously dangerous."Mexi-Box wrote: ↑20 Jan 2019, 14:37It only takes one punch, dude. Yeah, and even people on here respect Abell's power when he fights the odd gatekeeper or fringe contender. It's so hilarious how clueless you are. You're on here constantly yet you learn nothing.oogiebe wrote: ↑20 Jan 2019, 14:47Joey Abell also has power. You used words like "Dangerous; " "Huge Power;" "Ridiculously dangerous." As I said, you obviously never watched these fighters before. You just go on BoxRec. By the way, if you are seriously comparing Abell's talent to Helenius', I have nothing to say to you other than you need to educate yourself. And I'm not using the Teper fight as a measurement. Anyone who has ever seen Helenius knows he has power.

Pulev has more pedigree despite being uneven to watch, i'll give him a decision. Helenius can punch you out, though
Re: Kubrat Pulev vs. Robert Helenius - April 20, 2019
Pulev is on a win streak that includes Chisora and Hughie. I don't think a win over Helenius is going to change his situation much. He's already #1 by the IBF. He probably isn't going to move-up in the WBC rankings, since they don't rank Helenius. He probably isn't going to move-up the WBA or WBO rankings, since they don't rank Pulev.
The best purpose this serves for Pulev is maybe to get more practice against someone of Joshua's size.

Re: Kubrat Pulev vs. Robert Helenius - April 20, 2019
Exactly. Reason why this isn't a good fight for Pulev to take. It's a no-win, and even worse if Helenius' power shows up at any point. I guess it does give him a solid win, though.
Re: Kubrat Pulev vs. Robert Helenius - April 20, 2019
In the scheme of things it is a great fight. A top 10 fighter fighting a top 20 fighter.

Robert Helenius has become gun-shy ever since his KO defeat to Johann Duhaupas and he now appears to lack any sort of ambition whatsoever.
The Finn will adopt a survival-mode mentality en-route to losing to Kubrat Pulev via a wide points margin on the judges’ scorecards.
Helenius will make the Bulgarian look bad in what will inevitably be an extremely tedious and ugly bout to watch, but sometimes this happens when the main goal of one of the contestants is to merely survive at all costs.

Re: Kubrat Pulev vs. Robert Helenius - April 20, 2019
Pulev seems extremely good at selecting opponents who are known names, will keep him ticking over and maintain his rep and his ranking, without really being likely to upset the script.
I had high hopes for Hughie but he proved less effective than I was expecting. Look at it from Pulev's perspective, Fury was much younger and may have had an advantage in speed and stamina (not as it turned out) but he was known to be a boxer rather than any kind of puncher, so Pulev could be confident he wasn't going to lose by decision in Sofia.
There was nothing controversial about the judging but I'm confident there would have been had there needed to be.
Helenius ticks all the boxes. He won't beat Pulev and he'll make a very typical Pulev victim.
