Dubois new Joshua or not?
What do you think?
Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
I think he just turned 21; only has what 9 fights; AJ is still maturing; Dubois has a couple of years maybe before he's maybe at that level. So...we really have no idea yet.

Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
early days but as far as uk comparisons go to me he seems more like a fighter with potential to be a better version of joe joyce then as good as aj, seems not as athletically gifted in the ring as aj imo and a bit more lumbering, certanly not hitting nearly as hard as aj yet either though power can come more as a young fighter ages
still good potential though for sure
still good potential though for sure

Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
Joshua has always been a ferocious bastard & Dubois just isnt like that.
If you think at ~16 years old Joshua is living the thug life and smashing people up for tick money, robbing cars etc..... Dubois had already been living in the gym for years by this point, competing in youth amateur boxing, (+ taking steroids/ HGH etc????) i do wonder how much of that is to do with his dad and at what age it started. .
Maybe Daniel is just a little slow but it just seems so forced to me. Compared to AJ who clearly enjoys beating people up and everyone involved quickly realised he has the drive/talent etc to go to olympics, turn pro, make a legit business out of it and so on. They are completely different people.
Big D also only fought 4 guys (Mendouo, Darch, Little & Johnson) in 2 years really which is a bit disappointing for me. Even if you include the other 5 opponents & his trip to Russia for sparing that only seems like 12-18 months worth of work for a young guy that (presumably) enjoys the 'life', stays in shape & probably has never done anything other than gym & boxing since he finished school or turned pro.
Im sure Dubois will have a good boxing career if his heart is in it. Hes big, strong as an ox, heavy jab/good right hand etc. Hes a good boxer and i expect he will get a world title shot one day (not to mention the the million £££ he will make on the way) but he just doesnt seem to have that kind of "ill fornicate people up until i am a billionaire" attitude Anthony Joshua has.
EDIT: Forgot to add, his sister Caroline is actually much better. Since there is not much money in women boxing at any level the family needed Daniel to turn pro (huge signing on fee from W@rren) to fund her.

Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
I agree. I was foolishly comparing his laboured win over Kingpin with AJ's short order demolition until I took a step back and remembered how young and raw he was compared to the way more seasoned former Olympic Champion. It's almost man v boy.
He just needs matching carefully to ensure he continues to learn and develop and not get into a rut fighting a succession of easy marks all pretty much on the same level. The careful matching is the same requirement as with Efe Ajagba.

Good points. Makes me look forward to a Dubois/Ajagba fight in a couple or three years.candyslim wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 13:05I agree. Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
That'd be a fun fight right now although obviously that won't happen for a few years if ever.
Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
He will never be as great as Joshua. I say that because Joshua came along at the right time.
There is no one under 25 that will create a legacy for Dubois like AJ has.
In 5 years Povitkin, Pulev, Whyte, Fury, Wilder, Miller, Usyk, Joyce, will be gone, or reduced to gatekeepers.
Parker might also be gone by then unless he still wants it.
And I don't think Dubious will be ready in under 5 years, or at least if I was managing him, I wouldn't put him in at the top until then.
I think he has the potential to be #2 in the world and make a truck load of money.

Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
You say that but those guys will be replaced. We could be waxing lyrical about Marlo Moore, Artem Suslenkov, Albon Pervizaj, Roney Hines, Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez-Faure, Bakhodir Jalolov, Evgeny Tischenko, Christian Thun, Oleksanr Zhakhozhyi, Petar Milas, Agron Smakici, Efe Ajagba, Vladislav Sirenko, Darmani Rock, Willis Meehan, Tomas Salek, and so on and so forth.
Obviously many will drop by the wayside but the cream will rise to the top and we will be privileged to watch it all unfold.

Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
Wardley hadn't even had a chance yet. One step at a time!

Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
He’s forgotten I feel, more people have Joe Joyce on the brain than Dubois right now, that’s not a good sign.
I think from the Cojanu fight onwards he should be in a fight every 40 days, he’s not really in need of a step up, just needs to fight more, against more guys like Kevin Johnson, maybe not that negative, but opponents that’ll help him learn.
For me he needs to open up more too, dunno if this is because of his coach, but he never seems to box tall/long.
His popularity needs a shot in the arm.

Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
Yes, yes he is and he should play a young AJ in the biopic coming to theatres soon.
Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
Dubois is 21 and very much a work in progress. He won't be knocking on the champions' doors for a few years yet.TheGingerBomber wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 22:29 He’s forgotten I feel, more people have Joe Joyce on the brain than Dubois right now, that’s not a good sign.

Joyce is the wrong side of thirty. Time is not his friend. He is at his peak right now and needs to be making his move imminently. That is why people are more interested in Joyce at the moment than Dubois in the same way people are more interested in Jarrell Miller than say, Darmani Rock.
It's not a bad sign. It is just what I'd expect.

Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
I don’t think that’s the same, Darmani isn’t on telly like Dubois. Dubois is considered Warren’s golden boy, he puts him near the top of his fight night cards.candyslim wrote: ↑20 Jan 2019, 04:41Dubois is 21 and very much a work in progress. Joe Joyce’s promoter doesn’t even have a TV deal, he’s being made relevant by his manager’s claims that he wants to fight Ortiz soon.
There’s no expectation on Dubois to be facing top guys anytime soon.
But this country loves prospects, hence Buatsi & Kelly’s hype.
Re: Dubois new Joshua or not?
Who the F is Dubois ?
Oh you mean the guy that’s had 9 fights? Dipshiits. It wouldn’t be a week on here if one of you guys didn’t say some fighter without 10 pro fights is gonna be better than Ali. Idiots
