Only 30 seconds left in fight...ridiculous stoppage!!
Re: Demetrius Andrade vs. Artur Akavov - January 18, 2019
Really that bad? Is it on the highlights yet?
Re: Demetrius Andrade vs. Artur Akavov - January 18, 2019
Was bad in the sense Akovov was making the final bell no problem, but... the ref said to him "I'm stopping this" after the 11th. Akovov had a bad cut and took a slow-paced beating in all 11 rounds. Akovov pleaded "no im ok" so the ref hummed over it then said ok. R12 went exactly like all previous rounds. Andrade pepoering him with a range of shots every 10 seconds with Akovov doing nothing but running away, circling the ropes and making the audience dizzy. With about 25 seconds left Andrade threw a hook which was partially blocked and ref said "Fvck it, weve all seen enough of this garbage" - then Akovov and DiBella had the cheek to moan about it.... as if it makes a blind bit of difference wether its a TKO or 3x 120-108s. Akovov should never box again, an utterly shambolic performance. Andrade sucks too.
Re: Demetrius Andrade vs. Artur Akavov - January 18, 2019
Referee obviously wasn't a sadist. Didn't want the fans to suffer this garbage one more second. Akavov should be thrown into the far depths of the undercards now. That was a truly horrible performance. Same goes for Andrade who didn't even try to stop Akavov. Akavov reminds me a lot of Klimov. Just a bunch of moving and not a lot of boxing.
Saunders must've been partying the day before his fight with Akavov. Akavov isn't even European level.

Was bad refereeing tho rick,if tge ref was gonna do that with 30 seconds left he should of just jumped in out the blue in round 3 or 4 when the same combo landed lol bullshit refRKY wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 01:30Was bad in the sense Akovov was making the final bell no problem, but... the ref said to him "I'm stopping this" after the 11th. Re: Demetrius Andrade vs. Artur Akavov - January 18, 2019
I didn't have a problem with the stoppage.
Any boxer who has stopped trying to win deserves to have someone else decide how he's going to lose.
Akavov had conceded the loss long before the ref stopped it.
I think any fighter who spent most of the fight doing nothing and is clearly just trying to get to the final bell should always have the plug pulled on them in the last round.

I thought it was a horrible stoppage myself but after reading that, I agree with this too mateRKY wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 01:30Was bad in the sense Akovov was making the final bell no problem, but... the ref said to him "I'm stopping this" after the 11th. I think we're used to seeing ref's give boxers every chance but i think the fight circumstances of the should be taken knto account. Akovovs reaction reminded me of Malignaggis vs Hatton. Malignaggi actually said afterwards "I was losing, sure, but I'm too good a fighter to get stopped". I get that perhaps it retains the fighters sense of pride by making the final bell, but that doesn't outweigh the ref's right to call off fights which have became uncompetitive. My biggest gripe with last night was the ref didn't call it off sooner - he gave his corner a few warnings from the 8th, he shoukd have just had the balls to wave it off between rounds in the championship rounds.handsofstone wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 16:52I thought it was a horrible stoppage myself but after reading that, I agree with this too mateRKY wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 01:30Was bad in the sense Akovov was making the final bell no problem, but... the ref said to him "I'm stopping this" after the 11th. I think you've hit the nail on the head there, it was the timing of the stoppage it was bizarre, if he'd told Akavov sternly that he better show him something earlier then fair enough but to just step in with seconds left looked terrible, I do think Akavov might have felt one of those right hooks just before the end though, whether it merited a stoppage right at that moment I doubt itRKY wrote: ↑19 Jan 2019, 17:04I think we're used to seeing ref's give boxers every chance but i think the fight circumstances of the should be taken knto account. Re: Demetrius Andrade vs. Artur Akavov - January 18, 2019
Like already said. Just awful stoppage for akavov, having to deal with the loss of course takes what is left of his shattered pride in finishing on his feet and NOT got knocked out, which is exactly what it reads on his record now: TKO.
If andrade isn't able to close the show & jump the guy, let go decisively & land at least one flurry that really FORCES a referee to step in then he too doesn't deserve that statement of a "technical knockout"!
Freakin' waive it off after he got beat up & is cut after 8, 9, 10 or 11 roonds but ffs not with seconds left on the clock for no good reason.
