Tyson 88'vs Lennox 02'
Tyson 88'vs Lennox 02'
We all know how devastating Mike was BUT Lennox was something
special in the late 90's early 2000's. Who wins this matchup? Not to take
anything away from Lewis but he beat up a washed up, past his prime
Mike Tyson.
Growing up in my childhood Mike Tyson was like a comic book hero in
his prime!

i think that matchup is a little unfair, by 2002 lewis was 36, take him back a few years and you have a better matchup, tyson of 87-88 against the lewis of 1998-2000, its a tough fight and i probably would favour tyson between the 3rd and 7th rounds, if lewis could set his feet and stand his ground though tyson would be in big big trouble

Lennox was made to order for Tyson - While Lennox's size would have always been an advantage for him over 90% of his opponents....his style was made to order for Tyson.
Lennox did not like to "fight"...he'd rather jab and box "safely" and use his size to his advantage. A prime Tyson thrived on guys who tried to box him (who did not demand respect back).
Tyson speed and aggression would have chopped Lennox down inside of 7 rounds -

Tyson thrived against guys who tried to box him? You mean like Douglas? And Tillis?meade95 wrote: A prime Tyson thrived on guys who tried to box him (who did not demand respect back).
While I think Tyson’s punch and Lewis’s chin mean Tyson would have had a great chance of winning, I also think that Lewis jab, 1-2 and then clinch style was made for beating Tyson. Think about the Douglas fight and then add a LOT of power to the right hand that followed the jab. Lewis would have been a VERY tough fight for Tyson.

Lewis was never in deep trouble in his entire career. He has two terrible losses, but in both he was didn't get up in enough time to be in deep trouble. He was in a bit of trouble in some fights he won (e.g. Holyfield II, Briggs, Mercer - although he boxed poorly and didn't deserve more than a draw in that fight IMO).Name one time LEWIS was in deep trouble and cameback to win.
Excellent post, that's the way I see it too. I like Lewis winning this matchup by a unanimous decision or mid to late rounds KO.Tyson thrived against guys who tried to box him? You mean like Douglas? And Tillis?

I dont consider headbutting your opponent a way to come back and 'Win'.Decagon wrote:RazorKO wrote:Name one time LEWIS was in deep trouble and cameback to win.generic screen name wrote:Tyson always had trouble with taller fighters, and adversity. According to you, Henry Akinwande and Shannon Briggs were on the verge of knocking him out.
- Vitali Klitschko
- Ray Mercer
- Frank Bruno
Mercer beat Lewis in their fight, so the only fight that qualifies is Bruno and that was hardly a war, in that case than Tyson came back in a 'war' to beat Botha as Botha was ahead on the cards before being knocked out.

WHAT HEADBUTT? Vitali's cut was caused by a punch, anyone who saw the fight knows that! Lewis was lucky that the cut was so severe, certainly, but I believe he was on his way to stopping Vitali anyway.I dont consider headbutting your opponent a way to come back and 'Win'.

Lewis-Mercer was a very close fight. I scored it to Lewis by 1 round, but generally feel that a draw would have been a fairer decision.
Razor, I really don't think you are the best person to comment on Lewis fights, you obviously hate him and seem to let your emotions override common-sense.
Im pretty sure it was a headbutt which opened up VK's cut over his eye and Lewis was very lucky that the cut saved him as VK was outboxing him and even rocked him with a good uppercut before the stoppage.jezzamundo wrote:WHAT HEADBUTT? As for Mercer, I had Mercer outboxing him all the way through and was robbed of a decision, Lewis I heard also turned down an offer to fight Holmes because he had a good jab despite being some 48 year old man.
As for hating him, I dont hate him as a fighter as all men who get into the ring deserve respect, but I dislike him as a man, his arrogant attitude and the way people overrate him. People seriously think that Lewis is the best thing since sliced bread the way they overrate a man whos been KO'ed by 2 journeymen.

Ok, not a bad post Razor, but if you watch the reply you will see that is was definitely a punch, and I will agree that Lewis was being outboxed, but after round 2 Vitali never really hurt Lewis (A better boxer would have finished Lewis off in that round), but it was Lewis who landed the huge uppercut, although Vitali did take it rather well. By the end of round 6 though, Lewis was landing hard head and body shots and Vitali was clinging on. Watch the fight again and see what you think.Im pretty sure it was a headbutt which opened up VK's cut over his eye and Lewis was very lucky that the cut saved him as VK was outboxing him and even rocked him with a good uppercut before the stoppage.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lewis turned down a fight with a 48 yo Holmes, just like he turned down fights with Ruiz and Byrd because he knew he would not look good in beating them. Lewis would have been confident of winning (as I'm sure he would have), but he would have known there was a good chance than the steel-chinned Holmes could go the distance with him, and at times make him look silly with his jab. Lennox was always thinking about the legacy he would leave behind, and didn't want fights that could make him look less than top class. Hence his hand-picking of Grant and Botha rather than fighting Ruiz and Byrd. He would have beaten them all easily, but the Ruiz fight would have been ugly, and Byrd's speed had the potential to make Lewis look slow at times.
