Efe Ajagba vs Amir Mansour: Mar-09

Post by oogiebe »

Young power hitting prospect, Efe Ajagba is back in the ring against 46 y/o Amir Mansour on March 9. It's a fair size step up for Ajagba as Mansour (rated 68 BoxRec) has been in the ring with the likes of Filip Hrgovic; Sergey Kuzmin; Dominic Breazeale; Gerald Washington; and Steve Cunningham, amongst other decent competition. Mansour (23-3-1) is back in the ring for the first time since being kayoed by Ajagba's fellow prospect, Filip Hrgovic in the third round.

While Mansour's best days are behind him, this is a pretty big step-up for Ajagba and will be his first real test. Mansour being a southpaw makes it more interesting. The fight is scheduled for eight round.

Nice test for Ajagba and a good measuring stick for comparison after Hrgovic stopped Mansour in 3 rounds!! :box:

That's just what Efe needs, a fight that is not a guaranteed win!! :TU:

I agree. But I wonder why such a large step up at his age.

Its a step up because he has fought nobody, but if your a true prospect mansour isnt too big a leap, 46 is old, and if Ajagba is ever going to be world levle he should KO mansour early. Ajagba needs rounds, so he has to step up untill someone will give them too him. No point getting 20 fights in and having less than 60mins fight time toatal, cant gain experence like that.

I'm not comparing fighters in any way, but I'm feeling nervous for Ajagba in the same manner I felt when Lennox Lewis faced Donavan Ruddick.

Being a fan of Efe, I'm as much worried as I am anxious as it's Ajagba's first test.

I have massive respect for Amir Mansour but as good as young Mr Hrgovic is, can anyone imagine him obliterating the Amir Mansour of say two years ago in the same fashion?

No, Amir is coming to the end of the road and he will probably find wth Ajagba that the bridge is out.

I don't see this as risky for Ajagba at all, I'm just hoping he can learn something from Amir rather than simply adding a respected name to his resumé.

At the very least, it will be a huge confidence builder for Efe, as Mansour has been in there with some pretty good fighters. I'm really jazzed that it will be telecast!

Regarding that Hrgovic/Mansour bout. It looked like Mansour bailed at the end.

I agree. He did extremely well to be as good as he was for as long as we was. He is now 46 years old and was always handicapped by his late start and by being small by heavyweight standards. He has been an awesome competitor, tough as nails with bags of heart. Age catches up to all of us eventually and that's coming from someone who had no idea he has cataracts until about three hours ago.

As I always say "Growing old isn't great but it sure beats the alternative" :D

Wasn't your vision becoming terribly poor?

Maybe at an unusually rapid pace?

You might not have known that it was cataracts, but weren't you a wee bit suspicious as you grew increasingly blind?

The vision has got a lot worse but the cats are not too developed yet. I'm told they will get a lot worse before they take action and that could be a few years away yet. Meantime I've just paid about a thousand bucks for new specs (£769). Oh deep joy.

Thanks Tiny but it's not as bad as it sounds. They just replace the lenses with artificial ones. They can rebuild me. They have the technology :D :box:

I suppose I should be grateful it was one thousand bucks and not six million.

Otherwise they may have had to wait until payday

getnada wrote: 26 Jan 2019, 15:04 I'm worried about Mansour his health in this case, Ajagba just hits too hard, Ajagba would KO Wilder in 3, I think Fury wouldn't be able to make it 12 rounds either. I don't have the feeling Ajagba got a soft chin either.
Hey I'm in love with the kid, but he's only 24 and had 7 fights (not counting the DQ). He's no where near being discussed in the same sentence as Fury or Wilder.
