Is Lennox Lewis right?
Re: Is Lennox Lewis right?
I find the heavyweights these days plus Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis are jealous of AJ and the millions he is making each fight. Not one heavyweight from the past has skated Wilders class of opponent but slate AJ cause he steps up and fights the best guys in the division plus selling out stadiums. Lewis turned his back on the uk and went to fight in the states against akinwande, hasim rahman and mavrovic but has the gaul to call Joshua? Joshua is fighting the guys wilder has steered clear of,do they have a go at him for fighting stiverne? Or Arreola? Or Spitzer? Ya know who da fck are these guys? AJ steps up every time he fights and does the job and for me he is the 2nd best out there behind fury. So LL needs to go back to Canada were he belongs.

The PBC job; sour grapes; I don't know.thechump wrote: ↑21 Jan 2019, 15:47After he retired i think americans took to him and realised how good he was,the vitali rematch should of happened when both had a full camp, the bowe fight is similar to the AJ vs Wilder fight one has 1 belt and the other has the other important ones but LL seems to just media bash AJ.
Part of it is probably sour grapes in that he knows he would have starched Joshua inside 3 rounds and yet Joshua is probably making more in single fights than Lewis made in his entire career. He's got to be jealous of a very limited (compared to him) heavyweight getting all the money and plaudits that he feels he deserved. In the UK I don't think he ever really recovered from fighting for Canada in the Olympics.
Re: Is Lennox Lewis right?
I think Lewis’ fierce independence from mainstream promoters - plus his own naturally aloof personality- kept him on the outside, a great deal. He certainly did it his own way.oogiebe wrote: ↑21 Jan 2019, 11:59Good points. Lennox may have resentment as it took a while for UK to embrace him since he was widely considered Canadian from his stint at the Olympics. He's still my all time favorite HW.Tuan_Jim wrote: ↑21 Jan 2019, 11:57 Ruddock was a legacy fight and it came before he won the title. Golota came mid-career. It took Lewis a long time to get to Holyfield due to insurmountable promoter and sanctioning body politics, and unexpected losses (his own and those of others).
That being said I bet Lewis envies AJ's crowds and the hype that surrounds him. Reminiscent of Jack Johnson resenting the popularity and acclaim of Joe Louis.
To me he seems frustrated that Joshua isn’t going for the jugular, and going directly for the serious matchups. If he was prepared to do it, I think he expects Joshua to.

Yes I’m seeing some complete nonsense that I can barely believe on here. It’s very sad.Tuan_Jim wrote: ↑22 Jan 2019, 07:00So, Lewis ducked the Klitschkos by fighting the one who didn't keep getting knocked out each time an opponent punched him back, and while he single-handedly unified the titles, the brothers Klitschko somehow emerge with more credit for "collectively" unifying it?BroughtonRulesRefuge wrote: ↑22 Jan 2019, 02:37he never defended his unified title, instead selling them to DKing and ducking the Ks who unified collectively and defended while knocking King into part time work.
I didn't realise two seperate people could be the unified heavyweight champion.
As always, your contributions are moronic.
Re: Is Lennox Lewis right?
The argument having Lennox envious of Joshua's money and success is quite preposterous, like he himself did not sell out stadiums in UK while being still green as a pro. He is just wishing AJ would make it also among big boys in the US (and we know what platform that is), instead of milking his scene against guys not having that much of a chance against him. Matchroom instead just reviled him as a response, saying he's "jealous". Yeah.
Re: Is Lennox Lewis right?
He's not the only one to have said those things about Josh, not by a long chalk.

Re: Is Lennox Lewis right?
Why does Lennox get a free pass for being knocked out by two fringe guys? I’ve never understood it.
As for stadiums, he boxed in Hull City Hall, I was there and have seen bigger crowds at amateur shows there.

Lewis was good and i do think he was managed right to get were he wanted to be but if he was managed by eddie hearn this day and age he would be as big as Joshua imomickey1975 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 05:44 Why does Lennox get a free pass for being knocked out by two fringe guys? Lennox is one of my all time favourite fighters but my god he’s talking sh1t. Fighting on huge PPV Wembley stadium shows vs Parker and even takam with 80k people are more ‘legacy fights’ than getting knocked out but McColl in front of 10 drunks and Frank Maloney. It took Lewis a whole career to start featuring in ‘legacy fights’
Re: Is Lennox Lewis right?
Lewis was a quality fighter, but there's no denying he has all the charisma of a cricket bat, and his voice is enough to put a man to sleep

I believe Lewis tried to sign Joshua on some form of management deal before he turned pro. He must have seen something in him back then.
Sour grapes.
Sour grapes.
Re: Is Lennox Lewis right?
Good point dan,AJ has already began his legacy it started in his 17th fight were as lewis legacy started when he knocked out a coked up razor ruddock who built his whole career on going 19 rounds with mike tyson. AJ love him or hate him is fan friendly and the public relate to him and like him,he is like one of ya mates were as lewis reminds me of someone who thinks he is better than everyone and has done his whole career, like the time before the fury wilder fight when all the great heavys were on stage and he wouldnt get on the stage till someone got between him and bowe,he is still sh1t scared of bowe.danconnollyeire wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 08:19 Lennox is one of my all time favourite fighters but my god he’s talking sh1t. Scared of the man who gave up he’s title rather than fight him.

Lennox was an all time great. My favorite HW of all time. While I disagree with (and wince when he talks) much of his 'commentary' on today's HW scene, I can't take anything away from him regarding his boxing career.thechump wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 10:13Good point dan,AJ has already began his legacy it started in his 17th fight were as lewis legacy started when he knocked out a coked up razor ruddock who built his whole career on going 19 rounds with mike tyson. What on earth does that have to do with whether or not he was scared of fighting Riddick Bowe?Tuan_Jim wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:26You know Lewis gave up both his WBA and IBF belts rather than face Ruiz and Byrd, yes?Covfefe wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:04Terrible post.thechump wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 10:13

Re: Is Lennox Lewis right?
When was that? When he signed to fight Michael Grant (WBA)? Vitali (IBF)? Ruiz and Byrd would've easily lost to LL. Give me a break. The politics of the sanctioning bodies never influences my view of a fighter.Tuan_Jim wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:26You know Lewis gave up both his WBA and IBF belts rather than face Ruiz and Byrd, yes?Covfefe wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:04Terrible post.thechump wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 10:13

Re: Is Lennox Lewis right?
You said Bowe ditched his WBC belt because he was afraid of Lewis.
Lewis ditched two belts rather than face Byrd and Ruiz.
Was Lewis afraid of Byrd and Ruiz? Or was it business?
Was Bowe afraid to fight Lewis? Or was it business?
Bowe signed to fight Lewis in 1994. Hell of a thing to do by a man "scared" of Lewis. Lewis blew the fight by getting KOd by a tough sparring partner.
Bowe was deferring the difficult Lewis fight to milk his titles. He wasn't scared. When he and HBO tries coax Lewis into a Megafight in 96 Lewis turned down the risky fight and took on Mercer for chump change, getting his face and reputation rearranged in the process.
