Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
A decent matchup indeed. The previous year was very good for the HWs, this can be even better. We will also have Helenius-Pulev and Fury-Wilder 2 looks close to be made.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑24 Jan 2019, 17:45 Anyone else actually looking forward to this? Seems like 2019 will be the year of the HW’s I hope!
Already had Jennings-Rivas.. now this. Decent match ups I say.
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Yes I think this is a decent match although not an excellent match because the outcome is not in a lot of doubt. I see it as about 70/30 in favour of Kownacki. Maybe 65/35.
Now Jennings v Rivas was an excellent match before and during because I didn't have a scooby who was going to win from the moment when the fight was first mentioned a month or two before, right up to round nine or so when I decided who was going to win ... and then I was wrong anyway.

Your honesty is admirable! Washington by decision here. He has a new trainer and new, more aggressive style (we'll see how that goes under fire).candyslim wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 07:00 Yes I think this is a decent match although not an excellent match because the outcome is not in a lot of doubt. i don't think that aggressive style vs Kownacki would help him, to be honest

Fair enough. I don't think very highly of Kownacki and think this will be a very competitive bout.dagilechia wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 13:22 i don't think that aggressive style vs Kownacki would help him, to be honest

From the photo's I have seen of Kownacki, he looks to be in top shape. If someone teaches him some defensive tactics other than using his face, he might be a lot more competitive. Adam could move down to Cruiser but he would get slaughtered at championship level.oogiebe wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 13:32Fair enough. Kownacki is as good as he'll get. He is and will always be a very limited fighter. He's fun to watch because he comes forward and throws a lot of punches, but sooner or later he'll get exposed, ala Arreola.KiwiRider wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 13:54From the photo's I have seen of Kownacki, he looks to be in top shape. i don't think too highly about Kownacki too but Washington is imo worse than Martin and maybe even Szpilka
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
He has had 'flashes' of decency. With new trainer, in his last fight he was taking advantage of his size and length better than I've ever seen. He was also busier.dagilechia wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:38 i don't think too highly about Kownacki too but Washington is imo worse than Martin and maybe even Szpilka
He's only been a pro since 2012 and hasn't been boxing so long that he can't learn something. We'll see tomorrow.

the problem that he is already not that young, i don't think that he can improve a lot but as you say, we'll see tomorrowoogiebe wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:43He has had 'flashes' of decency. He doesn't have to learn a lot to beat Kownacki.dagilechia wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:56the problem that he is already not that young, i don't think that he can improve a lot but as you see, we'll see tomorrowoogiebe wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 14:43He has had 'flashes' of decency. Kownacki will never be a world champion or reach elite status.
He might as well capture the NABF heavyweight title and ride with it.

He'll have to lose first and realize his limited potential. In the meantime he's believing that he's a world contender. So be it.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 15:10 Kownacki will never be a world champion or reach elite status.

Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
If Washington wins then it doesn't show how good he is, more that Kownacki was a lot worse than expected.

Who's stamina runs out first?
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Washington's fights are usually pretty stale, but Kownacki hasn't exactly been boring. Sloppy, but not boring. I expect he'll make the fight, and Washington may wind up being stronger down the stretch. It'll be an interesting watch, although I don't anticipate the most entertaining bout in the world by any means.
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Going on past performances, probably Washington. He stepped off the gas with Wilder- got stopped after doing OK, and slowed down with Miller, same result except I think he also sort of quit in that one.
If Washington is smart, he should lay some bodywork on Kownacki behind his (fairly decent) jab. Well, that's is what I would do.
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Kownacki was five pounds lighter at 258 1/2 LBS, than when he weighed in for his fight against Charles Martin, but 13 lbs heavier than when he fought Szpilka.
Washington weighed 243¼ pounds 9 1/4 LBS heavier than when he fought John Wesley Nofire.

Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Those are his only losses yes, but he was not in the Miller fight, nor was he able to put away the likes of Jason Gavern and Nofire. He's a domestic level heavyweight for me. No special dislike for him, just don't see him as anything different to some other 50-100 ranked heavyweights, he just looks more the part.
Re: Adam Kownacki vs. Gerald Washington - January 26, 2019
Kownacki is no better. IMHO. I'm NEVER saying Washington is any better than domestic level. I'm really downplaying Kownacki's prowess. How he's in the top 10-15 is beyond me. I know the division is thin, but really? He'll be exposed.joshj909 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2019, 16:28Those are his only losses yes, but he was not in the Miller fight, nor was he able to put away the likes of Jason Gavern and Nofire. Just watched weigh in. I know this is not fitness contest but i cannot believe someone with Kownackis physique can have serious boxing skills like he has. He need to cut at least 30 pounds
