It would be an interesting clash of styles because both are so opposite.

Klitschko is a clever boxer. More clever than an 88’ Tyson.
Definately different styles.

Mike Tyson KO1 Wladimir Klitschko
He beat everyone else that way at the time. We have seen Wlad on the floor a few times. So I would lean to a quick win.

I think this would be a much tougher and difficult fight for Tyson than for WK.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑26 Jan 2019, 08:01 Klitschko is a clever boxer. More clever than an 88’ Tyson.

Re: 1988 Mike Tyson vs 2011 Wladimir Klitschko - who would win this match ?
I think Tyson would probably ultimately win it, but he would have a hard time getting at Wlad in the early rounds, and I think Wlad would be doing a lot of jabbing from a distance, and holding in the early going.
I figure Mike gets him within 6, and possibly even wins the rounds up until then, but Wlad would be doing his best to nullify the action because that would be his only thing he could do really to stay in the fight.

Klitschko's style is a nightmare for Tyson. Wlad could keep him at the end of the jab and tie him up every time he had Tyson close enough for Tyson to land something. But with his speed Tyson could to use some gaps successfully. He could use the fact of Wlad's chin being shaky at any time.
Re: 1988 Mike Tyson vs 2011 Wladimir Klitschko - who would win this match ?
I have to think that Tyson would eventually get to Wlad's chin. 1988 Tyson was awfully quick and he still had that head movement and great footwork to create angles. While Tyson was never a good inside fighter, vs Wlad he only had to get to Wlad once, considering Klitchko's 'questionable' chin.

80s Mike Tyson isn't Povetkin. In fact, he's miles better.

It would probably go similar to when Wlad fought Peter, except Tyson would be sharper than Peter was and eventually, Wlad wouldn't get back up.

Tyson by decision in a real stinker. I used to pick Mike by early ko but his lack of an inside game is a problem. Wlad would throw 10 or 12 jabs a round and they would hold on tight.

Tyson early, if Klitschko gets past four rounds I'm not so sure.
Re: 1988 Mike Tyson vs 2011 Wladimir Klitschko - who would win this match ?
..not sure about Tyson's stamina but he was a merciless killing machine..I'd say KO in the first couple of rounds, possibly a loss if the fight went the whole distance..

If Tyson could fight on the inside, I'd pick him all month long, but the lack of an inside game would be his probable downfall against Wladimir.
Don't get me wrong, Klitschko was no Riddock Bowe and was quite happy to clinch, but the difference is that Wladimir clinched because it suited him, Tyson did it because he didn't know what else to do.
I could see Tyson becoming exhausted and frustrated with Wladimir leaning on him.

Same here. Tyson needs to land the bomb early. I like Wlad lateapollo creed wrote: ↑26 Jan 2019, 08:56I think this would be a much tougher and difficult fight for Tyson than for WK.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑26 Jan 2019, 08:01 Klitschko is a clever boxer. More clever than an 88’ Tyson.

Mmm could go either way. In ten fights wlad wins 6. Can see multiple outcomes. Tyson early. Wlad points. Wlad late stoppage a la Douglas.

Yes. '88 Tyson; too fast; too strong; too quick; too accurate; too much.

Difficult to pick across eras. They were both great, great fighters.
Tyson early or Wlad mid to late or on points.

I would bet on Wlad but hope for Tyson to prove me wrong.

What people tend to forget is that WK had a very good footwork, distance judging and huge power. A 5′ 10″ Tyson would get out jabbed and clinched/wrestled with ease by WK. The only good chance for Mike would be to get inside early and land hard.
Re: 1988 Mike Tyson vs 2011 Wladimir Klitschko - who would win this match ?
Tyson looked special.....against less than stellar opposition. Then some of the bigger guys (and tougher opposition) started taking him deeper and deeper. Vlad is a massive guy...who could box intelligently and had a mule of a right hand. It's a tough fight to call. Wlad wasn't even slow back in the day, he could pop out a fast one two. 2011 Wlad however knew his limits but no doubt was riding a peak of confidence due to his prolonged success. There was almost no vulnerabilities in the minds of the people and Tyson in 1988 (as far as I'm concerned). No blueprint to success. Tyson would be riding a peak of confidence and fear. Tyson had a chin and if he could take some and dish it out maybe Wlad would lose his confidence.apollo creed wrote: ↑27 Jan 2019, 04:50 What people tend to forget is that WK had a very good footwork, distance judging and huge power. Yup.... but people keep saying that was mostly bc of Cus death, partying too much, drugs and wrong entourage. Imo I think styles make fights and the fighters who are limited are much easy to beat.lazboy wrote: ↑27 Jan 2019, 05:17Tyson looked special.....against less than stellar opposition. True. Anyway I think guys like Lennox, Bowe and Holyfield would handle WK but Tyson was just relying too much on KO his opponent in the early rounds.

Styles make fights, Tyson's speed would have been a nightmare for Wlad, he would have gotten under Wlad's stiff jab early and smashed him up. Wlad was tailor made for Tyson.

Like Wlad did not have speed. lol Haye couldn't do nothing to him and that guy had top notch speed and explosion. Also onother interesting thing about Wlad is his defense. Very hard to get through his long heavy arms.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑27 Jan 2019, 08:46 Styles make fights, Tyson's speed would have been a nightmare for Wlad, he would have gotten under Wlad's stiff jab early and smashed him up.
