Round-by-Round: Keith Thurman vs. Josesito López - January 26, 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Who’s ready..

‘One Time’ Keith Thurman is returning to the ring. Don’t really care about his opponent, but it’s just good to see Thurman boxing in a ring again.

Barclays Center, Brooklyn - Previously unbeaten cruiserweight prospect Marsellos Wilder (3-1, 2 KOs), who is the younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, was knocked out in four rounds by journeyman William Deets (7-12, 3 KOs).

The fight took place on the non-televised portion to the welterweight clash between Keith Thurman and Josesito Lopez. Wilder had picked up a win last month, as part of the undercard to Deontay's bout with Tyson Fury at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Wilder seemed to be on his way to a victory after three rounds, by landing solid punches that saw Deets get staggered several times and lose his mouthpiece while eating incoming bombs.

But Wilder made a big mistake when he dropped his hands and throwing punches that were far too wide - leaving himself wide open. Those errors allowed Deets to land a combination of punches that decked him down hard.

Wilder appeared to be in very bad shape while attempting to beat the referee's count and the contest was stopped by the ringside physician.

Typical. Throwing wildly and leaving himself open.

Who does he think he is? Deontay? Haha

And a sustained body attack would have to be the strategy for Lopez, if he's to have any shot.

We all know how vulnerable Thurman is to body punishment.

All a bit tragic I'm afraid. KO2 Kownacki. Think Stiverne Wilder 2 but slightly longer in duration.

3-0 Thurman

Thurman working the body very well.
His punches have snap, his jab is ok and he has the back up left hook he uses occasionally, looks a tad slower in speed but he's had a long layoff.

4-0 Thurman

Thurman took a left hook that shook him in the last 30 seconds but responded with a good right.
Thurman's body attack is cool and he's landing them from the outside.

5-0 Thurman

Lopez is game and if I were him I'd try my own body attack because there was a shot he landed on Thurman's body in the last 20 seconds that seemed to get his attention.

Thurman was shaken there as Lopez mounted a sustained attack for some considerable amount of time.

7-1 Thurman

Thurman's round but he clearly looked uncomfortable in there, Lopez is causing him problems.
Lopez landed flush a number of times early in the round.
