Carl Frampton May Drop To 122-Pounds

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Frampton did not have an easy time making the super bantamweight limit of 122-pounds, and he looks small at featherweight - which is now making him consider the idea of dropping back to a weight division where he was a lot stronger than most of his opponents.

Initially Frampton planned to move up in weight to super featherweight - which he would still consider if the right opponent came up.

“Look at the size difference between me and Warrington on the night,” Frampton said in an interview with the BBC.

“Warrington was a much bigger man than me so moving up a weight… I believed I could have beaten Warrington and then maybe moved up, but I was outdone by a bigger man on the night. So it would need to be the right champion if I was going to move up and not one of the bigger guys.

“Against (Nonito) Donaire, I made featherweight pretty comfortably and I remember saying before the (Luke) Jackson fight that if something came up at super bantamweight I’d be willing to try it out, so that’s an option.”

At 122-pounds, he would have world title options against talented fighters like WBC champion Rey Vargas, WBO champion Emmanuel Navarrete, WBA champion Danny Roman, and IBF world champion TJ Doheny.

He needs to work on maintaining his stamina for the final third of a fight. That's more of an issue for him than size.

Never felt happy with him at feather. Always looked comfortable at 122

He’s not making sense- he said he couldn’t make SB any more when he went up- so how come he can suddenly do it now?

He ain’t saying he can. He said it would be a struggle, but he’d rather struggle and make SB and be stronger against the guys there.

He made FW nicely, and Donaire was a smaller guy anyway. Warrington is a genuine FW.

There are tonnes of guys that have moved up to FW.

I remember Frampton saying he wanted to go up to SFW, and chase a 3rd weight title.

Only guy he can probably fight at SFW would probably be Lee Selby.

Certain fighters just aren't the same once they move up in weight.
Frampton is surely one of those. At SBW his lack of height and reach wasn't an issue, because he was such a big, strong beast. Just those 4 little pounds north and suddenly, he doesn't have the height or reach to stay at the top.
SFW is ridiculous.
