Felix Cash vs Rasheed Abolaji

Unbeaten Cash fights for his first major title when he challenges Nigerian Abolaji for the vacant Commonwealth Middleweight title on the Garcia/Cheeseman card this Saturday, ive seen pretty much all of Cash's fights and although he's a tidy boxer I haven't seen anything special yet, he doesn't look a puncher so maybe it'll take him a bit longer to adapt to the pros than some other amateur stand outs, Martin J Ward was similar coming through but raised his game when he stepped up the levels sometimes Cash's looked great and other times a bit boring, he has sort of a slapping style like Calzaghe from what I remember

This is Abolaji's second crack at the title after dropping a decision to Sheedy a couple of years back, he was also stopped by Sai a few years ago as well and was stopped in his last fight so I'm expecting him to be fodder for Cash to pick up his first title

I mentioned in the OP that Abolaji is coming off a stoppage loss but I didn't realise it was just last week, I'm not even sure if the fight will be on but according to Boxrec it is, maybe Abolaji's decision to fight a scheduled 12 rounder a week before a Commonwealth title tilt wasn't the smartest idea

like the look of cash got that natural boxer look about him , with his shots selction, good fast hands cant tell what he is gonna throw , the more fights the better he gets as he looks to rush things,early sometimes but with experience he will learn

Regardless of how good Abolaji actually is that's still a good win fir Cash, 1st round KO for a non puncher in his biggest test to date and now he's Commonwealth champ, the jab for the first knockdown didn't look all that much but Abolaji looked like he felt it despite commentary suggesting otherwise, he made the most of the count and never recovered, Cash stayed calm and composed, whipped some nice shots to the body and the right hand to put Abolaji down for the finish was a big shot

Cash has no right being anywhere near Williams yet although TBF Williams is above this level anyhow

i think it showed cash is learning aswell , look at his first few fights trying to bang people out in 1min then he is done his tank, he put abolaji down didnt rush it , i like him a lot a ,a real natural boxer about him, did get hit , but thats boxing

williams is a top fighter defo european i think better than that ,
would not rush him in to fight like that ,

I’m not sure we learnt anything at all to be honest Abolaji’s record on paper looked appalling and he delivered upon that promise.

It’s another camp for Cash though and he’s gained a bit of experience in regard to the outside the ring part, pressure stuff such as fighting for a title, on tv, increased media interest.

That’s the kind of shite fight that many Friday fight nights were built upon. To be honest the whole card was no better than an average Friday fight night. Poor fare

Soft Commonwealth title fights have changed.

At least ten years ago we’d get a talentless teak tough Ghanaian who’d lose a shutout.

Beautiful match-making to get Cash a chinney Nigerian light-middle.

No idea how that got sanctioned. The Nigerian has been mandatory for ages for that belt.

I get that these things are opinions but I just don’t see that. He handn’t beaten anyone at the level of Danyo, has been stopped a fortnight ago and was probably competing at least one weight class North of where he should be. He had no right to be anywhere near any type of title fight and even his record on paper looked piss poor. Losing to Sai dosen’t inflate his record unless the loss had some cruel twist for Abolaji.

sai has a hugely padded record and got blasted out in seconds by derrick webster and battered by that namibian bloke who andrade 120-104'd, that he gave cox a hard fight (years ago) is more a testament to cox and certanly being stopped by sai isnt a resume booster
