SMW Popularity poll
SMW Popularity poll
Tough one this. Who, based on themselves as a person and not on their collection of 'titles' is the better guy?

Imagine getting stuck in a lift with that lot.
Groves is the only one who’s even semi-bearable to listen to.

I warmed to groves when he was sending his best wishes to Gudnecht and he shed real tears. it was moving. It humanized the sport a bit.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑29 Jan 2019, 15:10 Imagine getting stuck in a lift with that lot.

Gotta be groves he is a realist and nit a fantasist
Re: SMW Popularity poll
For the general public Groves would be 1st. Eubank 5th. Not sure how the other 3 would rank. Maybe Froch 2nd as his unbearable arrogance and inability to give anyone credit is slightly more subtle than Paul Smith's moodiness on Twitter and DeGale's hyper nonsense. I like DeGale though. In small doses.
Re: SMW Popularity poll
Groves is easily the most likable.
Froch isn't a bad guy but he's certainly got a chip or two on his shoulder, I also don't think Eubank Jr is that bad either, I've always said his biggest problem is his old man.

Re: SMW Popularity poll
Now Groves, but Froch was probably more popular, when he was active, compared to Groves' nowdays popularity. Froch fought in more bright times of the division, there were more talents and competiton. And Froch's achievements were bigger.

Definitely not a tough one. Tougher if you flipped the question and said who you would least like to get stuck on an island with.

I don't know. I think it depends. When Groves was in "fight mode" he could be quite a nasty little pudendum (and he sounded quite a bit like a Adam Booth replica at times). He's quite an intelligent guy and he was good at playing psychological games/warfare, and you can see why Froch (who is very thin skinned) reacted like he did.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑29 Jan 2019, 15:10 Imagine getting stuck in a lift with that lot.

However, when Groves does interviews and he's just speaking from the heart, he's more likeable i think.

true- though he was very balanced and reasoned before the CEJ fight.Nondescript wrote: ↑29 Jan 2019, 16:15I don't know. I think it depends. I’d imagine that for the general public CEJ would be default 1, 2 or 3 just because they know who he isElJefe wrote: ↑29 Jan 2019, 15:43 For the general public Groves would be 1st. Eubank 5th. Re: SMW Popularity poll
Where is Callum Smith? He would get my vote but based on that poll, I am split between Paul Smith and George Groves.
Re: SMW Popularity poll
Eubank Jr. is about as likeable as watching a loved one slowly die.
DeGale aint much better. But he's got a bit more likeable, now he's close to retirement and might actually go away.

Re: SMW Popularity poll
If we are talking who is the best fighter has to be Paul Smith. I heard he took the Ward fight at 2 minutes notice yet still gave Ward hell and the reason Ward retired was he was being pushed into a rematch. In the Groves fight he was on the way to winning but he was suffering from a rare disease in that fight that causes one to collapse when leather touches your chin: which cost him the fight. Also he does have an amazing, easy going personality and never gets riled up on Twitter. He used to post on here but his account crashed after receiving too many inbox messages from fans telling him how great he is.
That being said: I voted Groves. Top man and a real gent. Champion inside and outside the ring

Yeah. I think he softened up quite a bit post gutknecht aswell. He kind of lost that nasty streak somewhat.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑30 Jan 2019, 07:23true- though he was very balanced and reasoned before the CEJ fight.Nondescript wrote: ↑29 Jan 2019, 16:15I don't know. Re: SMW Popularity poll
I think Froch made Groves a better person.
Think back to the interviews with Groves pre Groves/Froch 2
And then the interviews with Groves after that fight. Carl literally beat the humble into George.
A lot like Charles Martin after he fought AJ.

Groves but I don't mind Degale, I have a lot of respect for him going on the road to take tough fights
Re: SMW Popularity poll
Groves was always a decent guy, watch the pre fight interviews with degale and groves, degale was like the school yard bully and froch tried to imitate this in the build up with more "he shouldnt even be in the ring with me" till he was looking up at lights in the first round haha,i thought that might of humbled froch but not a chance.

Carl Froch - entitled to be as arrogant as he is, being the best British fighter from 2010 to now. Groves stuff all for show, he is very insecure.
James Degale - indifferent. Times sounds like a complete prick, others very easy to root for him, especially time spent in the states fighting his heart out. Fans he lost during the Groves saga will be recouped before and after Eubank fight.
Chris Eubank Jnr - absolute dipstick. Even without his father, a complete moron that has absolutly no future in world boxing. Concreted the night he walked around that nightclub with the IBO belt.
George Groves - geezer. Loved the bloke. Captured public's imagination during DeGale episode, once again after the first Froch fight, and solidified his legacy dismantling that prat Eubank. Shame it turned out the way it did, but still.
Paul Smith - Eubank with less boxing ability and a bizzare sense of importance afforded to him by Sky.
