It's really not the first MMA fight on any level. McVea did something similar not long before, there were Rough and Tumble fights in America long before that, and way way before you had the ancient sport of pankration

Yup. Johnson did several wrestling matches while in France. He also did circus strongman acts--- though these were mostly illusions and tricks.
