Froch hasn't got over being taken to the cleaners by Andre Ward, so would have really struggled to overcome a loss to Groves.

Re: George Groves
I think what really cuts Froch about Ward is that he was more than just outboxed. Froch was outboxed by more people than you'd see at a WI meeting after a baking ban, but they all made mistakes against him because they tired and/or got too emotionally involved. Froch's gameplan against those guys was to wear them down with his superior toughness, all the while tacitly taunting them for their alleged cowardice in not engaging.
I agree with those who've said that Groves might've beaten him on the backfoot, but the bravado in Groves was ultimately used against him as Froch lured him into becoming emotionally involved. Twice.
But Ward just wouldn't bite, his mental state completely unfazed by any appearance of chickenwork. And that's what I think bothers Froch to this day — not that he couldn't outbox Ward, but that neither could he outman someone whose composure rendered him immune. Being outboxed is frustrating, but it never gets under your skin as much as being outsmarted does.
There's also the matter of Froch having a fantastic career but feeling undervalued by the public, because he generally fought better names than Calzaghe, but, despite chasing him for a couple of years, was never able to match Calzaghe's reputation. I definitely have sympathy for the lack of recognition Froch has given his accomplishments, but I'm no longer a fan of the man I used to love when he was chatting about smoking boots.

There was a time also when he insisted he'd only been beaten once, completely dismissing the Kessler loss simply because he'd won the rematchbig lennox wrote: ↑01 Feb 2019, 05:32 Froch hasn't got over being taken to the cleaners by Andre Ward, so would have really struggled to overcome a loss to Groves.

Re: George Groves
Great post. Even in the build up Ward was so composed and stable. In the face-off program Ward at one point when interrupted by Froch says “Can I speak?” In a calm, authoritative manner. Froch immediately says “Im sorry go on.” That show to me speaks volumes about their differing mindsets. Ward: confident, content and secure within himself. Froch: arrogant, discontented and insecure so really needed to convince others and ultimately himself that he could win.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑02 Feb 2019, 00:09 I think what really cuts Froch about Ward is that he was more than just outboxed. Not many can out tough Ward. Don’t let the smiles fool you. He is a bad man.
Re: George Groves
Glad he has called it a day. Iam seeing signs of difference in him.i think George has been a credit to English boxing.enjoyed lots of his fights. Remember the Anderson fight.when he came through.degale fight close.jack fight thought box really well and could off got the decision after an early ko down. His world title win .I thought the Russian was getting the better of him groves braved if though and stopped him .super sieres gave George a lot of rds in the final.and the froch fights.1st one thought groves was brilliant but Carl is a warrior .2nd knew froch had his number.good luck to the boy . really enjoyed to watch his career from start to finished

Yes, had forgotten about that. I think he caught Kessler at the right time in both their fights. Kessler had been out injured for a while before the first fight. I think a Kessler of a couple of years earlier might have been able to stop Froch. I love that he blames getting beat over 12 rounds on a delayed flight to Denmarkbigjack wrote: ↑02 Feb 2019, 04:42There was a time also when he insisted he'd only been beaten once, completely dismissing the Kessler loss simply because he'd won the rematchbig lennox wrote: ↑01 Feb 2019, 05:32 Froch hasn't got over being taken to the cleaners by Andre Ward, so would have really struggled to overcome a loss to Groves.![]()

I watched the Froch-Ward fight again and the reason Froch is so sour is that, not only was he out boxed, outsmarted, slower, less punch variety, less ring generalship than Ward but most importantly, he was outmanned by Ward. Ward stood right in front of him, pushed him around and bullied him. In Froch's head, he's the biggest fuckin' hardnut to ever come out of Nottinghamshire since I dunno Robin Hood but on that night, Ward was way more 'man' than Froch and he hates itmickey1975 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2019, 08:33 Not many can out tough Ward. Re: George Groves
I would have liked to see the Anderson rematch. I think George would have won it in a good scrap. The first fight was class.
Re: George Groves
I’m glad he’s called it a day too, he may only be 30 but he’s had a pretty tough career in hindsight, there’s a lot of miles on that clock for a 30 year old.brilo33 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2019, 11:18 Glad he has called it a day. Did they put him in too tough too young? A 32 fight career is quite short for someone of his level.

I think you guys are a bit harsh on Froch.
That whole 'control-freak' ego and 'hardnut self-image' might make him an irritating bell-end in real life, but it's what made him great in the ring.

Only when his opponents were intimated (Bute). Whose who didn’t give a fvck (ward) seemed to make him doubt his ‘hardness’ which is why he’s so sour towards ward today. Ward wasn’t even slightly intimidated and Froch hates itskanksta wrote: ↑08 Feb 2019, 09:08danconnollyeire wrote: ↑04 Feb 2019, 10:10I watched the Froch-Ward fight again and the reason Froch is so sour is that, not only was he out boxed, outsmarted, slower, less punch variety, less ring generalship than Ward but most importantly, he was outmanned by Ward.
