WBSS Super Lightweight (1/2 Final): Josh Taylor vs. Ivan Baranchyk - 18 May 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Scotland’s Josh ‘The Tartan Tornado’ Taylor and Belarus’ IBF Champion Ivan ‘The Beast’ Baranchyk continue their quest for the Ali Trophy in the 140 lb division on 18 May at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Taylor (14-0, 12 KOs) and Baranchyk (19-0, 12 KOs) both looked strong on their way to the semi-final against previously unbeaten opponents.

The World Boxing Super Series is looking forward to returning to Scotland.

“We are super excited to bring the biggest boxing event to Scotland in many years,” said Kalle Sauerland, Comosa’s Chief Boxing Officer. “It is not only a night of world championship boxing but also the massive opportunity to claim a place in the final of the World Boxing Super Series and be crowned the best super-lightweight in the world.”

Nothing official yet. Don't think it will happen, if he fights and beats Taylor it will do more for his career, even if the WBSS falls in it's arse afterwards, than anything else he could do in the immediate future.

Think Taylor will stop him. He's there to be hit and Taylor has a high output. Can see Ivan being stopped late on his feet.

Taylor's win over Victor Postol is enough to convince me he'll have too much for Baranchyk. Josh is at least a level up from Yigit and will probably boss most of the 12 rounds for a points win. Anything better will only add to Taylor's reputation.

It wasn’t the best performance. But he did what he had to do to win. Scorecards were shït!

I hate to say it, but I think Baranchyk is a high risk opponent.
I'm more nervous for Taylor than I was going into the Postol fight.

I think Taylor is a top fighter and has brain.i think the Scots man will beat him up. Taylor can move .box on the front foot .back foot. I assume the belrussia n will come forward like his last fight.can see Taylor using those long arms to hurt him .while moving then later rounds putting it on him.this is the fight of year for me . until hopefully Taylor s fight in the final.no doubt the belrussian is a step up and is dangerous. But every fight is a step up until your champ

Saw this at the weekend but forgot to post..

That alongside the Taylor fight would be fantastic, provided everything is sorted out behind the scenes :bag:

Yeh. Saw it too. Will be good having him on the UK.

UK boxing fans are familiar with him when he fought McDonnell.

Obviously us hardcore fans knew him anyways

I know it's early in the year, but this could be the best card held on UK soil for 2019.

Until Baranchyk is at a press conference I don't think this fight is happening.

This is where having a good manager/management team is so important in boxing - his imbecile of a manager is being completely unreasonable! Being paid late is unacceptable but if the financial problem is resolved there is no reason to pull out!
