Light Heavyweight Top-10 Update (After Kovalev-Alvarez II)

Post by DrDuke »

How do you see it?

I see it this way:

1. Kovalev - simply the best resume, the fact of being proved at the elite level and he's still in shape, still the champ.
2. Gvozdyk - just defeated an old, but a longtime champ, who had the remaining for Kovalev belt, while Sergey was the unified champ.
3. Bivol - relatively good resume and possesing a belt.
4. Alvarez - now a former champ with a championship victory over now top guy, who was able to avenge that loss just right now.
5. Browne - a solid contender. Jack scalp was good, cause Jack established himself as a top fighter with retireing Cleverly and drawning vs Stevenson.
6. Badou Jack - well, his achievements were mentioned just above.
7. Artur Beterbiev - a paper champ with a sh*tty resume. Only the belt make his name noticeable, that's why he's that low.
8. Sullivan Barrera - a solid fighter, more of a fringe contender / gate-keeper level, but has some skills and decent scalps.
9. Joe Smith Jr - can be said the same as in Barrera's case, to whom he lost.
10. Anthony Yarde - a rising contender. Beterbiev actually should be on the same level, but he was just lucky to have the title opportunity against some no name.

Anthony Yarde seems like a freaking animal to me. But is easy to look good against limited oposition, cannot wait until he step up :box: :box: :box:

Beterbiev is definitely in the top 4 and an order of that 4 is unclear until they fight each other. I still think that Kovalev is not mentally tough enough to beat the other 3 who are much better and hit much stronger than Alvarez.

Euro-level journeyman Dariusz Sęk went 7 rounds with him and was stopped by ref on his feet while unknown prospect Robert Parzęczewski destroyed him in 2. Yarde seems good, i have him in my top 10, but at this point i dont see him as a fighter with top 3 potential in this division that is stacked with a lot of very good fighters.

There are clear top 4 and there is no point of ordering them until they fight each other.

I very much agree. Kovalev is not what he was. I think he’ll lose to Betrrbiev. Age being a reason why.

berts got big power but also so many more holes in his game then the other big players do, he has a punchers chance vs pretty much all, but i think theres a good chance hed lose to kov still, gvo, bivol, browne, and alv

the best guys also have power themselves to go with much more refined skills

I reckon the top 5 or 6 are all pretty equal. I reckon you could see 5 different #1s from 30 votes.
