HW danny williams still fighting
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Eddie, please get Danny Williams on as a pundit for the AJ card, even the Whyte card if possible. You'd gain huge respect from within the community by giving the bloke the chance to share his vast high-level HW experience, rather than get beat up in feckin Latvia.
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
He definitely needs somebody to give him a break in the Boxing industry that's not "Hey we got another fight for ya Danny"
Don't know if he'd make a good TV announcer or not, but surely they could find something for him to do. I ran into Lamon Brewster who had some sorta token job that they'd given him. Not really sure what it was, but he was getting paid.
Best I could gather he was sort of Security like a bouncer or something. Perhaps he was specifically looking after a few key people if the crowd got rowdy or something
Point is....they found something for him.

All valid and correct, but at the same time you don't see many London based fighters continue until their 44 - let alone a London based fighter who has earned like Danny. Some good investments and I am sure he could have been comfortable particularly if he was doing even a part time job.Coco wrote: ↑21 Mar 2018, 15:41Decent enough if you get 3 a year, but at the end of the day earning 60k a year in London gives you an average life when you are fighting but doesn't leave much for the pension pot. If he has bought a house a car, keeps a missus and puts his kids in private school, he isn't left with anything at the end of each financial year.
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Exactly the point I made mate. These low key fights in small venues with modest ticket prices just won't generate the cash to pay decent purses (if any at all). The local fighters will get a percentage of tickets they sell & It may be the case that promoters are doing Danny a favour by letting him fight at their events - the promoter provides the hotel room & picks up the travel costs, but that could be about it. There may be an element of sponsorship from private sources, but whatever the case, money may not be the primary motivation for boxing at such venues.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑21 Mar 2018, 09:40 I would wonder if he is being paid at all for some of his recent contests.
He has won 3 of his last 4 but it is unlikely that his opponents were selling tickets and I wouldn't have thought that Danny Williams pulls a crowd for a 4 rounder in Czech Republic these days.

Hotel room?? I was under the impression he is flown in on the morning and gets the next available Flight back to Heathrow after his fightKassel wrote: ↑22 Mar 2018, 05:51Exactly the point I made mate. Gotta be at least one night's accomodation involved me thinks, be unusual to get a flight back same night as fighting, next day would be more likely....Tommyscc wrote: ↑22 Mar 2018, 07:21Hotel room?? Dunno really, it isn't uncommon for the European red corner boxers to fly home the same nightKassel wrote: ↑22 Mar 2018, 07:38Gotta be at least one night's accomodation involved me thinks, be unusual to get a flight back same night as fighting, next day would be more likely....Tommyscc wrote: ↑22 Mar 2018, 07:21Hotel room?? Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Regarding the private school line, a quick check on Google suggests the average cost of private education in the UK is just over £13,000 per year.
I'm not sure Danny would be anywhere near to clearing that sort of money from these fights to be honest. It's not even like he's fighting regularly. He only fought once in 2017 and 2016 plus two fights in 2015.

He's probably got money coming in from elsewhere and he's supplementing it. Ever little helps.dirk2686 wrote: ↑23 Mar 2018, 05:32 Regarding the private school line, a quick check on Google suggests the average cost of private education in the UK is just over £13,000 per year.

Danny Williams: world champion...
I check on Boxrec periodically to see whether Danny has added another bout to his Eastern European ‘adventure’. Not only did he recently pick up a rare victory but he also won a ‘world’ title of sorts and is the new GBF champion. It’s worth noting that to do it he beat 3-42 Martin Stensky who he had beaten twice previously.
Hope he finally hangs ‘em up now...

Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Now there's a coincidence, I posted the same thing on the Prince Patel thread a couple of hours ago (Williams fight was on the same bill as Patels)
Didn't realise their was a dedicated Williams thread.

Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Williams on a four fight win streak, he picked up another first round KO on 11/5 in Hungary which has just been posted on Boxrec...

He had another win that hasn’t been included on boxrec for some reason.

Does he need the money desperately or is it love of the sport that he can’t let go?

Off his rocker
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
Body guarding is hard to get into, the exams are expensive and not easy to do.
If you do pass them you then need to find a job. The exam stuff is a business to extract money normally from nightclub bouncers.
The people who get the work work in Africa and the Middle East in lawless areas protecting oil fields and the like. They won't even look at you for this work unless you are ex military.
Re: HW danny williams still fighting
After the McAllister fight he was indeed off to Africa (Nigeria) for a bodyguard contract.Coco wrote: ↑04 Feb 2019, 06:37Body guarding is hard to get into, the exams are expensive and not easy to do.

Maybe he had a cheeky fight when he was over there?

This type of work is pretty lucrative, pays much better than boxingchinarich wrote: ↑04 Feb 2019, 10:15After the McAllister fight he was indeed off to Africa (Nigeria) for a bodyguard contract.Coco wrote: ↑04 Feb 2019, 06:37Body guarding is hard to get into, the exams are expensive and not easy to do.
