Matchroom difficult to negotiate with!

Post by kbackup408 »

I am in the camp where I don't care about the figures just want to see the fight happen (but that is a naive mindset and is not the reality)

As these negotiations ramble on think its obvious it will be Matchroom who will have to offer an equal % otherwise no way the big fight happens!

Thoughts?

Edit: in reference to the Joshua negotiations

Joshua makes a lot of money. I'm led to believe his opponents make more vs him than they would elsewhere.
Wether they're entitled to a larger share of the income is debatable. If they get a deal where they make way more in future should they win seems more realistic. Everyone one wants the big money, but they aren't making it. If you were in Hearn's shoes, would you give away more to people making demands for money when they can't make close to what they're being offered without AJ?
Until Joshua's takings start dropping drastically, it'll rumble on for a while I should think.

Just frustrates me with all this A side B side talk, both opponents (Fury/Wilder) bring a lot to the table Fury brings a lot more revenue Wilder is purely a belt!

The problem now is that because of Sky /Matchroom putting " Regular " fights on Pay per view then a lot of fighters now value themselves a lot higher. if Dylan Whyte wasn't on Pay per view in previous few fights then he would probably jump at the chance for pay per view money v Joshua but he has options now and can fight pay per view vs someone less dangerous and keep it going for a while and still make great money.

Its sky /Matchrooms own fault but folk will continue to buy it as longs as its hyped.

Compare Joshua's issues with that of other cash cows, Mayweather, Leonard, De la Hoya, Alvarez, Tyson, and only 1 of them has been clearly struggling to get opponents in the ring....open the purse strings..

I know, but that's how I imagine it might be if someone was wanting to dig in to my earnings.

If you regularly put fighters on PPV, whether it is AJ or Dave Allen, you have to pay more for the opponents as well as for the home fighter.
You can't make punters pay for PPV then expect fighters to take small hall money.

It's nuts - the likes of Dave Allen goes on about being on big PPV shows etc. but he boxes at 4 o'clock!

Matchroom surely know that they have created an unsustainable model, but they are not bothered and want to make as much money as possible in the meantime - and at the moment this includes keeping Aaaaaayyyyy jaaaayyyyyy unbeaten.

I am 100% sure that AJ, Fury and Wilder would all love to fight each other - but I can't see AJ fighting either of them.

It is only sustainable if the top of the bill is worth it.
Whyte has got away with it because he has been in good fights rather than the quality of the opponent.

2 of the three have fought each other. The other one is pricing himself out of it. I can't see how anyone can be 100% sure.

I would love it if the Fury vs Wilder saga continued till 2020 - Kevin Keegan voice

But in all honesty if AJ wants to be best in his era hw has to make an = split!!!

Hearn has totally shot himself in the foot, he doesn't mind Whyte being on PPV but when it came down to offering him a rematch clause with reversed terms on the AJ fight he shat himself - becoming a joke !

Hearn works for AJ and Whyte and the decisions are up to them individually. It wouldn’t have been Hearn’s call to reject the reversed terms for the rematch.

Thinking of it purely commercially I could understand why AJ wouldn’t be happy with agreeing with reversed terms in the rematch.

Well i look at it this way , When i was working and employing a few guys , i always wanted , top tradesmen , figured you pay peanuts you get monkeys , . So i always payed above the going rate , which at the time was about $25 dollars an hour , I would'nt hesitate to poach good tradies , from others , and my rate of $35 p/h $10 p/h more plus the gaurantee of plenty of work was always sufficient .

I did have on occasion guys come back to me and say , we want more , , and my answer was always , go back to your old job , and see if they will pay you more than i do , people just get greedy its nature , , Eddie is'nt stupid he knows the figures . In any case i doubt that its matchroom being ackward , AJ is the boss they work for him . Eddie gets payed to take the flak

For months and months the consensus has been that 60/40 to Joshua would be fair, they offered 60/40, now it has to be 50/50 :maybe:

I don't think Matchroom are particularly difficult to deal with - they made the Klitchko fight, got Parker over, Povetkin etc.

When your in charge or a director of matchroom , a company worth probably a Billion dollars , I don't think taking a bit of stick of anyone on an internet forum is a problem to them , we are what we are , just boxing fans , who have a hour or two to pass and do it reading and commenting on sites like this , but overall were irrelevant , and probably a source of amusement to them , Lol ,,, but it beats reading the Beano

I think what AJ/Hearn are attempting should be illegal. Not over the first fight, but over the rematch should Whyte win - it is not right that AJ would still command the lions' share. I know we live in a capitalist world but that is fundamentally not right. I don't like calling for bans etc but that sort of xxxx should be illegal. If you lose, you drop down a peg or two.

I agree. Can you imagine the outcry if it was Don King rather than Hearn?

And if they're gonna behave like that, at least have the balls to own it publicly, and not keep quiet about it. Well done to Dillian for blowing the whistle on what is arguably a racket. If you're not prepared to own it publicly, don't do it. very underhand and sleazy.
