Shakur Stevenson vs. Christopher Diaz - April 20, 2019
Now we have an answer as to how ready Top Rank’s matchmakers feel Shakur Stevenson is for a steep step up in competition.
According to an ESPN.com report Wednesday, a deal almost has been finalized for Stevenson to oppose Puerto Rico’s Christopher Diaz on April 20 at Madison Square Garden. The Stevenson-Diaz fight will be part of the Terence Crawford-Amir Khan undercard and will air as part of an ESPN Pay-Per-View telecast.
Stevenson (10-0, 6 KOs), a 2016 Olympic silver medalist, has taken some incremental steps up in competition since he turned pro in April 2017. The Newark, New Jersey, native has scored impressive knockout victories in each of his last two bouts, but Diaz is significantly better than those two opponents.
Facing Diaz in just his 11th professional fight is indicative of Stevenson’s ambition. The 21-year-old Stevenson repeatedly has expressed his desire to fight for a world title before the end of 2019.
In Diaz (24-1, 16 KOs), the young southpaw will encounter a boxer-puncher who this time a year ago was ascending toward his own world title shot.

If Shakur wins this fight convincingly it will definitely put him on the fast track!! Props to Stevenson for taking such a big step up in class and not letting Arum dissuade him from doing that.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑06 Feb 2019, 19:37 Stevenson (10-0, 6 KOs), a 2016 Olympic silver medalist, has taken some incremental steps up in competition since he turned pro in April 2017. If Diaz was still undefeated, there is no way Arum would have made this match upBest Coast wrote: ↑07 Feb 2019, 22:56If Shakur wins this fight convincingly it will definitely put him on the fast track!! Re: Shakur Stevenson vs. Christopher Diaz - April 20, 2019
When Shakur Stevenson and his team asked Bob Arum to face the Puerto Rican Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz, the legendary promoter thought the request was insane.
However, seeing the seriousness and confidence of the Olympic silver medal winner, Arum considered that this battle would be a plus for the fans who will attend the upcoming card April 20 at Madison Square Garden for the undercard that will star Terence Crawford and Amir Khan in a welterweight clash.
The clash between Stevenson (10-0, 6 KOs) and Diaz (24-1, 16 KOs) could be the one that steals the show on the Top Rank card.
"Stevenson is a great prospect. Many are saying that he is taking this challenge too early in his career, "Arum said to ESPN Deportes.
"Diaz fought with us on many occasions, he is a very dedicated athlete who already contended for the title and lost to an inspired Masayuki Ito, but, without a doubt, he has the experience to handle a less experienced fighter like Shakur."
Diaz was ready to face Jessie Magdaleno on the 23rd March but knowing a better offer to fight with Stevenson, who fought at the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 and now has valuable credentials on professionalism, he jumped on the fight.
"When Stevenson's opponent had to be decided, the name of Diaz came out. I thought it was crazy, he was not ready, but he and his people said yes and then we did the fight. The fans win with this great fight," said Top Rank's boss.

Does not look good at all. Broner, Davis now Stevenson. So much talent yet poor judgement. I really hope Diaz can pull the upset.
Re: Shakur Stevenson vs. Christopher Diaz - April 20, 2019
Shakur is proving to be another waste of talent who can't shake his upbringing. You can take the kid out of the street, but you can't take the street out of the kid. Sorry to say.

Asshole, punching a woman, then punching a guy several times while he is on the floor. Should definitely get fined and banned.
Almost certain to have a lawsuit coming his way too.
On a side note, how much of a pussy did his mate look? Must have landed half a dozen punches on that girl and barely buzzed her.

I think the other guy was David Greyton.keirw wrote: ↑04 Apr 2019, 14:19 Asshole, punching a woman, then punching a guy several times while he is on the floor. Should definitely get fined and banned.

And yes, both should be in jail.
Stevenson repeatedly hit that woman when she tried to pull him off beating the guy on the ground.
Floyd woulda knocked her out, but we would never have seen the video on it.

Speed should be an issue based on his inability to avoid Ito's right hand but its not like Diaz is a pushover. Hes been working with Freddy Roach at wild card for this one. If Stevenson thinks this will be a walk in the park he might be in for an interesting adventure.
Re: Shakur Stevenson vs. Christopher Diaz - April 20, 2019
Stevenson has been charged with felony battery and is in serious trouble now.
Stevenson, meanwhile, landed a series of right and left-handed blows to the other man, seen wearing a white hooded shirt, who is pummeled while on the ground, then kicked by Grayton before Stevenson pulls his friend out of the garage.
Stevenson and Grayton left the premises, but a witness told police that the men were staying nearby at the Shore Club just around the corner.
Investigators reviewed the video, came to the Shore Club, found the men in the lobby and arrested them.

I don't know who David Greyton is, but if he is boxer then his poor performance vs this woman will be prime trash talk material for all his future opponents.
Re: Shakur Stevenson vs. Christopher Diaz - April 20, 2019
Well felony battery is a serious crime that comes with jail time. So both of these thugs are in for it. And rightly so. The offended parties sustained some serious injuries according to reports. Dumbassses!
Stevenson was charged with misdemeanor battery last year, so he's in double trouble.
