Anthony Joshua to earn $32m to face Jarrell Miller!

Post by verlichte »

"Joshua Set To Bank Career-High Purse in Miller Defense"

ANTHONY JOSHUA is set to pocket a career-high purse for fighting Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller on June 1 in New York.

The WBA, IBF, IBO and WBO champion was expected to defend his belts at Wembley on April 13.

But after failing to secure a big enough opponent, AJ will now attempt to crack America.

His promoter Eddie Hearn says a deal to fight New York native Miller is now close to completion and their Madison Square Garden showdown could be rubber-stamped before the end of the week.

And it is understood that Joshua will earn around £25m [32 million USD] for his part in the Big Apple clash – which would eclipse the £20m [26 million USD] he banked for beating Alexander Povetkin in September.

Most of the money will be stumped up by Hearn’s US broadcast partner DAZN, while Joshua will also earn via UK pay-per-view sales on Sky Sports Box Office.

Hearn said: “I would say it is 80 percent likely that Joshua will fight Miller next.

“The money is not just coming from DAZN, it’s Sky Sports Box Office, it’s Madison Square Garden, it’s international TV.

“Every marketing executive and PR specialist have always said, ‘You have to fight in America’ and the timing just appears to be right.”

Deontay Wilder allegedly earned a disclosed guaranteed purse of $4 million, with Fury earning $3 million for their bout, though some believe that they may have earned as much as $14 million and $10 million respectively, after taking into consideration PPV buys, gate receipts etc. (though these figures [as quoted by CBS] seem far too high, since ESPN reported the PPV revenue being only $24 million, with half of that figure going to the cable and satellite providers).

This means that AJ will be earning at least $8 million more to face Jarrell Miller than the combined (maximum) total purses that Wilder and Fury earned for their bout.

Therefore, Anthony Joshua’s purse for the Jarrell Miller fight is likely to be greater in value than the combined total purses that Wilder received for all nine world title fights that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has competed in.

Maybe, maybe not. I would be hard pressed to name more than six fighters that I'd give a realistic chance of beating Joshua right now (that doesn't mean I'd expect them to beat him).

Admittedly It's partially based on what we don't know about Big Baby (can he soak up punishment?) as much as what we do, nevertheless Miller is one of them. Definitely not awful. Definitely top ten, but is he top five? We should know by Summer's end.

It looks like a waiting fight, but a spectacular sacrificing of Miller is what's needed by everyone concerned right now. Anthony Joshua is the just the man to deliver it.

Everyone wins and one gets hurt, except perhaps Miller who might see it differently of course. But he will be duly recompensed for his special guest appearance.

This could be a masterstroke. A great way to turn a tricky situation into a huge gain. Can't wait.

I'd rather he fought Ortiz to be honest. Ortiz has just responded to having his name called out by AJ last month. Basically he's saying I'll fight you in the US or the UK and money won't be an issue. It's a pity he didn't reach out sooner. I want AJ to fight Ortiz while he is still around to fight. He's in training for Christian Hammer and could probably make the April date at Wembley. Miller won't be going anywhere, not even the NFL. :D

Miller should fight someone a bit more daunting than Washington, Duhaupas, Wach, Adamek or Dinu to earn a title shot but it's too late for that now, and I fancy Miller to make a lot of people sit up and pay attention. At least it appears Miller wants the fight, that's something.

So you're agreeing that it's a bad fight, but saying that that's a good thing?

32 million? And they couldn't offer Whyte more than 5? Not that I wanted AJ/Whyte II, but this is egregious in my mind.

A ridiculous amount of money for this fight. Can't blame AJ for taking it.

Miller is a bit heavy and slow and he gets insulted if you miss him with a punch, but I don't get the negativity for this fight. Miller has beaten who they've put in front of him. I can only think of Wilder or Fury as a better fight against AJ.

UK PPV sales?! Lol. What time are they expecting to put the fight on at UK time? They can't seriously be expecting to put it on PPV in the UK at between 1 and 3 am GMT?

Don't you worry Slim :TU:
We will all be paying attention.
300 lbs hitting the canvas is always an eye catching attraction.
Of course, some of us might wait until the clip is on YouTube because paying top dollar to see the whole 2 rounds is a bit of a big ask.

An early doors PPV is nothing new. I'm sure it won't make much difference. AJ's target audience usually get to bed about 5 in the morning on Sunday anyway.

Besides, you don't have watch it live do you?. I don't stay up half the night for anything these days but I'll watch it 'virtual-live' first thing in the morning.

If I stump up for PPV that is, which rather depends on the card as a whole.

So if Joshua is getting 32 million to fight the completely unknown Miller.
What will he really want to face Fury or Wilder.

I just can't see money being made on this Miller fight. DAZN must want a tax write off

Now that is a question more easily asked than answered ... If you're looking for a sensible answer that is. Will it be more than he got for Klitschko? My gut-feeling is 'yes' but again, who can really say?

When it comes to earning money in the heavyweight division, Joshua is so far ahead of the rest it’s riridculous.

If this is true then Fury and Wilder are dreaming if they think they’ll ever get near 50/50! Crazy moolah
