Boxing question.

Post by MasterG »

Just seen a fight, well the fight didn't happen.

Not sure the names as the footage wasnt great so the names were muffled.

Anyway. Black boxer, heavyweight was 5-0 after intro bell rang and the other guy simply walked out of the ring back to the dressing room.

What was that all about?

If it’s the fight I’m thinking of, the boxer who walked out was protesting about his pay or his management, something like that. Can’t remember the guys involved but it only happened a few months ago, so should be relatively easy to find out if you search a bit.

There was a similar occurrence in the 1988 Olympics in Korea when a Korean super-heavyweight sported a beard (against AIBA rules) and in protest, an opponent from Sudan, entered the ring and then walked out.

Efe Ajagba vs Curtis Harper. Harper said he walked out of the ring to protest his purse. His trainer said that it was bs and Harper was scared. He should never fight again.

Just quoting Harper's trainer. Yes, boxers have balls. Doesn't mean the guy didn't want to fight that fight, pal. Harper's girlfriend was overheard asking Efe to not hurt her boyfriend. It was a strange situation with a lot of information about it on the net. Walking out of the ring at the opening bell is never ok, regardless of the reason.

Perhaps the most fair depiction of Harper's walkout.

harper had already lost 5 times and had been knocked out 3 of them, was he really suddenly so scared to have it happen again? i mean then just cover up for a minute and then lay down and still get paid and not get branded a total sh!thouse

funny thing is the first time i ever saw him he showed a lot of heart in giving arreola a very tough fight

I don’t remember that! Was a shambles thoug 1988 Roy Jones, the Korean would wouldn’t leave the ring, the Korean who against the rules fought twice and got knocked out twice
The guy who wouldn't leave the ring would later go on to claim a Bantamweight title, very talented guy.
