How Many Fans Feel That Floyd & Canelo Can’t Lose in Vegas Unless Knocked Out?
How Many Fans Feel That Floyd & Canelo Can’t Lose in Vegas Unless Knocked Out?
I’m curious to hear what the fans think here? Did Floyd benefit from cooked up cards vs Maidana and others in Vegas because of the money he brought into the city. AND is Canelo now the recipient of the same benefits because of his standing as the #1 attraction in Boxing?
What’s your honest opinion?

And of course I notice just after putting this out that someone already had a similar poll posted before me. Sorry guys.

No, Floyd clearly beat maidana. The worst card he was ever a part of was the absurd draw with canelo. I had trout, Lara and ggg 1 over Alvarez .

i wouldnt say canelos ever gotten a win less deserved then what floyd got vs castillo the first time (the only fight i ever had floyd losing), but clearly the judges give nelo the benefit of the doubt
with floyd there are a good few fights where the oppinent got like 3 or 4 rounds despite deserving maybe 1 at best. no way did oscar deserve a split either or maidana a draw card

Floyd provided much less reasons to hesitate on the winner of his bouts. Actually only Castillo fight #1 was lost by him. Maidana #1 can be blown to the draw, but Floyd didn't really lose it. And Canelo has numerous amount of arguable stuff. Lara, both Golovkin fights. And even Cotto score wasn't that wide.

Thing with Mayweather is... he kinda won all his fights fair. Boring defensive style is what beat his opponents.
Not the judges

Here we go again.
Canelo has a fight scheduled against a credible opponent and the predictable campaign to discredit a possible Canelo victory long before it happens is in full swing.

Mayweather was born into boxing. If anyone understands it and all the hidden tricks, it's him. Canelo is his successor, the current Vegas A side. To beat either of them in Sin City will always require a knockout, at least until a successor can be found, a new A side.
The sheer amount of money that Vegas invests in these superfights suggests the unlikelihood of all the vested interests (cartel is a kind word for them) willing to leave things to chance.
Vegas cares nothing for Mayweather or Canelo, tomorrow it will be someone else, but the tactics will be the same. The only result they fear is a KO. It's difficult to claim a win, or even a draw when your fighter, the A side, is being counted out.

Yep. Maybe being floored 3 or more times could be too much for judges to give them a win but other than that, they get a predefined decision.

Re: How Many Fans Feel That Floyd & Canelo Can’t Lose in Vegas Unless Knocked Out?
Ali couldn't lose a decision....until he was beaten by Spinks in Las Vegas.
De La Hoya couldn't lose a decision...until he was beaten by Trinidad (a true robbery) and then Mosley in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao couldn't lose a decision...until he was beaten by Bradley (another true robbery) in Las Vegas.
This trendy line that "the popular cash cow fighter" is constantly gifted by corruption, is just so outlandish.
Just a means by their critics to diminish their talents. Smear their legacies.
They win because they're usually better. It's that simple.
But on those rare nights when they're not the superior fighter, the judges vote accordingly.
Canelo will lose in Las Vegas the night an opponent actually beats him. He has already lost in Las Vegas.
Mayweather is probably permanently retired and will dodge a bullet.
But if he once again decided to stumble into a ring at the age of 42 and proved to be a shell of what he once was, I have no doubt that the judges will mark their cards to reflect that.

Re: How Many Fans Feel That Floyd & Canelo Can’t Lose in Vegas Unless Knocked Out?
So you think that Floyd and Canelo get treated like any other fighters in Vegas ha? You don’t think it’s strange that Floyd and Canelo have their own personal judge in Moretti? Or that Floyd can make his opponent change approved boxing gloves that he used all during camp right before the fight? Or Floyd declining Manny’s request for a shot for pain for his shoulder only to be caught with a needle in his arm with no repercussions.SenorPipino wrote: ↑09 Feb 2019, 10:28 Ali couldn't lose a decision....until he was beaten by Spinks in Las Vegas.

They certainly don't get treated the same. That is obvious.

Re: How Many Fans Feel That Floyd & Canelo Can’t Lose in Vegas Unless Knocked Out?
No I don't think anything is strange.
Fans always dissect the popular fighters, searching high and low for anything to tarnish their reputations.
Except maybe that people believe this nonsense year after year, fight after fight
But conspiracy theorists always abound.
I gave examples of cash cows who met their Waterloo in Las Vegas when many opined that it would never happen there.
But they finally shut up when Ali, Pacquiao and De La Hoya were finally unseated by those supposedly "friendly" Las Vegas judges and commissions.
In this era the same innuendo is tossed routinely at Mayweather and Canelo (and by extension GBP).
None of these judges and promoters are going to risk their livelihood and freedom to protect certain fighters on a constant basis.
The same conspiracy garbage had been slung for decades about many "protected" high profile fighters.
Where's any evidence after all these years? How come no one has ever uncovered any definitive corrupt practices on such a high scale level?
Probably because it doesn't exist. It's just in the minds of imaginative, oft times disgruntled boxing fans.
And best yet, why didn't Oscar bribe 2 judges in Golovkin-Canelo 1 instead of just Adelaide Byrd?
Seems like a waste of money for a savvy guy like ODLH not to secure 2 votes if you're going to buy decisions.
Just more Twilight Zone theories that always fall short when examined closely.

I hear you, but let's remember that boxing is not regulated by any independent organization. While I don't think judges are bought and paid for, they are still fallible human beings who in their minds have favorites as well as expectations going into a bout.SenorPipino wrote: ↑09 Feb 2019, 10:59 No I don't think anything is strange.

Twilight Zone! Coming from the guy that doesn’t believe that there’s ever been a criminal element influencing Boxing decisions. And I’M in the Twilight Zone? Now couple that with the fact that Vegas was actually built with mob money and the mob still exists strongly there, how ignorant can you be not to consider the possibilities after seeing the crap we’ve seen in this sport the last 40 years? Ignorance is bliss dude. Good for you.
And by the way, your point about Manny and Oscar is not smart. In the mob, they make as much money as they can off a fighter until it’s time to cash in. And bet the other way one night and clean up. It’s the same model they use for everything. When you use up the victim as much as you can, you blow it up and find another. It’s what they do.

Everyone can argue as much as they want. Perception becomes reality in this case, as the poll suggests.

I agree with this. It's not so much a case of brown envelopes changing hands, as judges knowing that it's the lead promoter covering the bill for their first class travel/top hotel rooms, and everything else that goes along with it. Boxing judges are not well paid, so once they receive one meal in a nice restaurant, free of charge, they naturally tend to want a second and a third etc. I do believe they're wary of pissing off the person who's paying the bill.oogiebe wrote: ↑09 Feb 2019, 11:02I hear you, but let's remember that boxing is not regulated by any independent organization.
