Marcos Maidana Planning Ring Return With PBC

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Former two division world champion Marcos 'El Chino' Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) is planning to return to the ring in the coming months.

He intends to return to the ring under the banner of Premier Boxing Champions, which is no surprise with his long relationship with PBC founder and powerful boxing manager Al Haymon. Maidana also works with adviser Sebastian Contursi.

Maidana announced his comeback on Friday night in a video, which was released to numerous Spanish outlets like Univision.

The Argentina puncher has already been training for the last month.

Initially, Maidana announced his return last month in Argentina. But then he went quiet for a few weeks and appeared to step away from those plans.

It didn't take long before rumors of his return would resurface in the Argentine press.
Obviously the boxing bug is giving Maidana an itch the he needs to scratch.

During his time away from the ring, he's been working as a promoter back home, and staged an event last month where his younger brother Fabian Maidana suffered his first career defeat.

While sitting on the sidelines Maidana gained a considerable amount of weight - but he intends to fight again as a welterweight.

PBC has no shortage of welterweights opponents - like Manny Pacquiao, Adrien Broner, WBA champion Keith Thurman, IBF champion Errol Spence, WBC champion Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia, Josesito Lopez, Devon Alexander, Andre Berto - and several others.

Around the time of his retirement, PBC was attempting to match him against Thurman, who was calling for the fight.

He’s doing a FMJ. Trying to stay relevant.

He retired about 4 years ago. Those years he’s missed would have still been his good years.

I'll be rooting for him if he does decide to come back, but it's almost certainly not in his best interest to do so. It's his life though.

Why do people like Maidana so much? Is it because he beat Broner?

Or his style of fighting?

I’m probably the only one that’s not his biggest fan. Just never have been.

Because of all that and not only it. Broner win, fighting style, but also giving Mayweather a tough fight in an entertaining clash of styles bout.

He's just my kinda fighter is why I like him so much. A prime example of what I mean is this.

In the Amir Khan vs Marcos Maidana fight if I recall correctly. When the bell rings for Round 1, Amir Khan comes out with his arm extended ready to touch gloves with Maidana. Maidana tries to take his head off with an overhand right...I love sh*t like that. It tells me that when the bell rings, he's all business. He ain't your f*cking friend, he's here to kick your ass.

Broner does the hump thing on him, he beast the shit out of him for a few rounds, knocks him down, and does it back just to let him know who the boss is around here...classic stuff.

And yes he gave Floyd one of his toughest bouts. Nobody other than Jose Luis Castillo gave Floyd a harder fight IMO.

Yup, Castillo and Maidana took FMJ in some deep waters. It's no wonder that FMJ wanted to redeem himself and gave both of them rematches.

Tyson Fury's recent success will inspire many out of shape, out of the game boxers to give it a go again.

Judging by recent photos, is it realistic to expect the aging Maidana to ever get back down to welterweight.

He looks like he may have been at least 80-100 lbs over that weight.

No way is he shifting the weight or rust from 4 years ago, plus he said yesterday that he is fully focused on his new promotions company. He'd never get close to 147.

He wants a piece of Canelo! :OhYes:

Or maybe the Charlos or something

They should put him in with just some soft guy first just to see what he can still do.

There's talk about setting him up with Pacquiao, now that they're both PBC. A PPV natural.

But again, I'm skeptical that Maidana can make 147. A middleweight bout with Charlo sounds more realistic.

Pacquiao at 147, and Maidana can just weigh in at whatever he wants...that's fair :OhYes:

Pac's too quick.

Let Maidana weigh in at whatever he wants and he'll probably throw and land fewer punches than Broner.

He's just a badass. He fucked up Victor Ortiz in a fight where I think he might have dropped 3 times but refused to stay on the canvas. Khan dropped him with a body shot and I thought the fight was over right there and he got up and carried on fighting. He was like Jason from Friday the 13th. He was one of my favourites long before Broner. The Broner fight and the first Mayweather fight just cemented him as a legend. He's one of my favourite fighters of all time. Sure he didn't win everything but he had aggression, balls, and heart, and he was always value for money.

Boxers really need more help when it comes to investing money - I am not sure but guessing he is coming back because he was blown his two Mayweather cheques?

its true that boxers are often terrible with money, though everytime a guy comes back ppl say they must have blown there cash, instead of thinking maybe they have plenty of cash left but just want more?
