fighters unanimously liked or hated
fighters unanimously liked or hated
talk of a maidana come back, and got me thinking.....among boxing fans maidana is liked by so many. one reason is for beating up a guy almost everyone dislikes, ya boi adrian. also his entertaining style, and he never really reached a level of hype where he drew a counter response from people tired of him being forced down there throats
who are some fighters who have been almost unanimously liked or unanimously disliked? i know that not EVERY single person in the world will like/dislike them, but u get it

and lol anticipating the cheeky 'but i dont like maidana!;' posts
Re: fighters unanimously liked or hated
recently id say ggg for a while had a huge liking. but then when he reached a certain level of hype there was some backlash, seemingly among a lot of black fans. i guess its hard to make it to that really higher level of hype in boxing and still be an all around hugely loved guy

I don't think too many people disliked Glen Johnson did they? He might not have been everybody's favorite, but he seemed to be a guy that at the very least people respected, and liked to some degree or another.
Probably because of that feeling that here was a guy who had truly earned his way to the upper echelon of the sport after years of toiling away at the journeyman level.

ya hes another one i think who was pretty much unanimously respected
i think a key is that a guy cant be an absolute top level fighter with significant hype and backing. those guys enivatbly start getting #haterz

I haven't come across many people who dislike George Groves.
Derrick Del Boy Chisora is pretty likeable, it's hard to dislike him really.

If you're talking about within the "boxing community", the first name that comes to mind is George Chuvalo. I've been fortunate enough to cover the sport in North America for 35 years, and I've never interviewed a former or current fighter, trainer, manager or promoter who had anything negative to say about Chuvalo. From Ali and Frazier to Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Mayweather and Fury -- all were effusive in their admiration for the granite-jawed Canadian. At age 81 and hobbled by failing knees and hips, George continues to be a favorite with the media and promoters, and he's always mobbed by fans on his visits to the IBHOF in Canstota.

Crolla instantly comes to mind
Re: fighters unanimously liked or hated
I wouldn't say I disliked him but I didn't really care for his attitude sometimes, he was too quick following close decisions to cry robbery for me.gilgamesh wrote: ↑09 Feb 2019, 21:11 I don't think too many people disliked Glen Johnson did they? I respect him for pretty much fighting anyone and anywhere though.

Henry Cooper
Re: fighters unanimously liked or hated
Mine wasn't keen on him either, I'll always remember my dad's words as well "The Yanks have a killer like Tyson and we've got this f*cking clown"
My grandad felt a similar dislike for Henry Cooper as well.

I was saddened to find out that Gatti was quite an unpleasant person as I loved so many of his fights, but I shouldn't have been surprised should I this is boxing after all
