My dad wasn’t a big fan, mainly due to the hype despite his clear limitations in a great era of heavies. I think by the Time he won the title he was happy for him. We were a Lennox household but for their dust up we had a large gathering of folks around the house and it was very pro Bruno.

What cheesed me off most about Bruno was all the title chances and in between he never once beat a top contender to earn his shots.95gerog wrote: ↑11 Feb 2019, 16:04My dad wasn’t a big fan, mainly due to the hype despite his clear limitations in a great era of heavies. To us lot from the UK, yeah.
Any neutral observers would probably think differently due to the dodgy decisions.
Richie Woodhall seemed well respected in his day. I've never seen such honesty after a controversial decision than what he displayed after the Catley fight.
Catley himself was also a top bloke. Probably the only person to announce on a live television interview that he's got the jappy crappies then, a few breaths later, ask his girlfriend to marry him.

Senior was my absolute hero when I was a young boy.
Its funny because beneath the act, posturing and quirky ways, there’s as tough a man as you’ll ever meet. Young Eubank was a pretty menacing fella too.

Nigel Benn - he must be universally liked?
Even if you might not have been rooting for him, you respected his desire, willingness to lay it on the line and fight anyone, no questions asked.
Honourable mention to Marlon Starling -Never seen a bad word said about him.

Very true. Given plenty of folk to knock over in order to keep a hype train rolling.bigjack wrote: ↑11 Feb 2019, 16:12What cheesed me off most about Bruno was all the title chances and in between he never once beat a top contender to earn his shots.95gerog wrote: ↑11 Feb 2019, 16:04My dad wasn’t a big fan, mainly due to the hype despite his clear limitations in a great era of heavies. That was the Terry Lawless strategy. It did work to be fair.95gerog wrote: ↑11 Feb 2019, 17:37Very true. Henry Cooper was despised by Canadians for steadfastly refusing to fight Chuvalo.

Henry Wharton never once trash talked an opponent. You couldn’t dislike him.

This is true, although I remember not liking him for a while when Fidel Castro Smith boxed him out of the county and the ref raised Wharton's hand at the end.mickey1975 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2019, 03:37 Henry Wharton never once trash talked an opponent. You couldn’t dislike him.
Not his fault, obviously, but that was one of the worst robberies ever.
