Tyson Fury ... Did we underestimate him ?

I absolutely underestimated him. I doubted him vs Wlad and even more so, doubted him vs Wilder.

Not in my case. I always thought he was very good. Not just because he's big, but his size certainly does help. But because of his ability to fight orthodox and southpaw. He's also a good body puncher.

His Jesus-coke-back to Jesus persona is a bit irritating, not to mention some of his tweets and statements. I was following him even before his first McDermott fight. This guy is a serious HW.

I am raising my hand as one that underestimated him. I had only seen his fight with Wlad, which I still say was the worst 12 rounds for the HW Belt in history. He tapped so much and never fought so I just thought he was a typical blowhard who loves attention.

Proved me completely wrong. Now I can’t wait for his next fight.

I'm not sure the bout with Wlad showed how good TF is, or must maybe just how freakin' smart and disciplined in the ring he is. Maybe I'm splitting hairs.

I did. I didn’t think he would have the fitness and will to be on for 12 rounds against an elite athlete like Wilder.

What he did was beyond amazing. His getting up in round 12 was something I will never forget and is truly the most memorable boxing thing I have seen in recent years. Almost shed tears watching replays.

He’s proved he’s the top dog. He’s a bonafide champion.

It's one of those sporting moments that will be replaced in years to come.

If I saw it in a Rocky film I'd think it's daft and unrealistic. Out cold, sitting up like the Undertaker, Wilders dancing and then just stopping and looking shocked and then coming back and finishing the round stronger.

It made the fight. Without that, nobody is talking that enthusiastically about any rematch.

I think just about everyone will have underestimated him at some point.

Whether that be seeing his potential to be a world champion in the early part of his career

Or his ability to beat Klitschko in that fight

Or whether he had the condition to go 12 rounds with Wilder last time out.

And completely understandably too. Most of what Fury does flies in the face of common convention.

If Klitschko was able to fight Fury in a rematch, Klitschko would have won. The fight was close with Fury rabbit punching and only had one point deducted by the ref.
