Here's a bit of racist trivia: Films of Louis' fights were overexposed on purpose as to negate his dark skin. America has really had some dark times.

Do you remember Time Magazine during the OJ Simpson murders? (I am not sure, are you a Brit?) Time and Newsweek used the same AP photo of Simpson, (with Time feeding to a conservative audience and Newsweek to a liberal one), Time didn't know that Newsweek was about to use the same AP released photo on their cover as they were about to use; when the two magazines hit the newsstands at the same time, we discovered Time Magazine had darkened OJ skin color. That was 1994.

Think about our current president; nothing ever really changes but the date; America is still a deeply racist society. We already paid dearly once for that racism, with 620,000 dead, wonder were we are headed now? They attend political rallies and chant hate like third world peasants, and our current "leader" brags about it.

So I ask again what do you mean HAD some dark times? It's midnight here.

yeah,but it swings both ways because people are hypocrites.
Remember some years ago when Pres. Obama was running for President.
and in for at least one important big campaign speech,
Someone in his camp had the idea that he appeared too light-skinnned on the TV monitor ,so they darkened him up considerably
with dark makeup so the viewing audience would kind of forget that he is half-Caucasian ?

Max Baer mentions seeing "Black-spots". Isn't that one of the signs for having a detached retina ?
Could he have been fighting Jim J. Braddock with one and for the rest of his career ?

Isn't it wonderful how much they "cared" about their fighters! -- Yea Baer was turning it into a joke for the reporters, but you are correct if he said that to his trainer, he was having eye problems. -- How long did Greb fight with one eye?

Sam Langford had a bad eye too.
Both Harry Greb and Tiger Flowers both died on the operating table under anastesia in 1926 and 1927
while scar tissue from around their eyes was being removed.
maybe going under anatesasia had improved by 1935.
