Shohjahon Ergashev vs Mykal Fox

Post by handsofstone »

Action from the States on b/nation this Friday, battle of the unbeaten Super Lightweights, Uzbekh amateur standout Ergashev is 15-0, 14 KO with 9 of them in the 1st round, no names on his ledger yet, Fox is 19-0 with only 5KOs, he has a points win over Chop Chop Corley 2 fight ago, on paper it like boxer vs banger, interesting match up

Thomas Patrick Ward has a WBO Super Bantamweight eliminator on the undercard against 12-1 Jesse Angel Hernandez, good opportunity in America for Ward and good exposure on Showtime, I like Ward he's a tidy little boxer, doesn't have much power but technically sound

I recognise the name but theres loads of these eastern European amateur stand outs who are bulldozing their way up the ranks, I'll have to look into Ergashev's record to see what cards he fought on

Good win over Wang Zhimin (a disappointing fighter given his amateur pedigree, but game fighter)

7-3 shoho for me. commentary went on and on about him mssng (though still sall had him winning) but f@ck me all fox had to offer were utterly powerless tappng jabs and had poor accuracy on his own right. shoho was not accurate but stll landng wth glancng power shots and had fox not looking any confdence.

shoho not good performance though. super 1 dmensonal, jesus mix it up man. stll interested in him but he has to convnce me to get back on his train

Awful fight, referee on Ergashev's ass about leaning on Fox's head, even when Fox was preparing to to take it from behind, Ergashev showed little variety, no serious combinations of jab, Fox did little more than tippy tappy stay away jabs. Hugely disappointing fight all round.

Pish fight, scrappy as hell with the 2 southpaws, Ergoshev wild as fvck and Fox tall rangy and awkward, it just didn't gel at all, I had Ergoshev winning 97-95 but it was close, 2 of the cards were wide but it was one of those type of fights where it was hard to score as the quality just wasn't there, Ergoshev came out at the opening bell like Taz and was going hell for leather trying to KO Fox and I thought there was a chance he could blow Fox away but he was too wild and wasn't putting much thought into what he was doing, he was all left hands all night and never threw the jab at all, he does look strong though

Fox just kept ducking under the haymakers and Ergoshev just kept leaning on him, I thought it was a cert he'd lose a point but he never did, Fox grew into the contest as Ergoshev settled down and used his jab and range well at times, I think he was bullied in a lot of the rounds though and was probably why he lost the fight widely on 2 cards

All in all not a great fight and the star of the show was Ward who was near flawless
