Harry Greb vs Paul Berlenbach

Post by scorpio83 »

Who would win this match up at light heavyweight? Would Greb hit Berlenbach with swarming punches from every angle to take a decision or Berlenbach cuts him off the ring and blasted him with body punches to take a decision in a hard fought battle?

Could you please tell me where I could find some fighting footage of Harry Greb?

Can I also ask you, perhaps, where did you find the fighting footage of Greb you must have obviously watched?

Tbf greb was called 'the human windmill' and judging by numerous first hand accounts, thats the way he fought.

Id favour Grab on pts. They had a few common opponents im sure - walker and mctigue for two and greb came off better,

Harry Greb would have been too much for the relatively crude and inexperienced Paul Berlenbach. Yes, Berlenbach had good punching power, but history shows that Greb took a punch very well.

Greb. Greb was licking his chops to fight Berlenbach but couldn't get the fight. Berlenbach was too one dimensional and limited for Greb. Berlenbach lost to, drew with, or looked bad against several guys that Greb beat convincingly. I don't really see anything that tells me Greb wouldn't have controlled Berlenbach. In fact I think Paul was made to order for him. Even Berlenbach's supposed equalizer, his power, is overrated. Rickard carefully matched Berlenbach against setups to get him eye catching KOs and build him up as a smaller version of Dempsey. Look at Berlenbach's boxrec record and youll see a lot of washed up guys getting stopped by him but when you see fighters with more Green boxes than red ones by their name in recent fights youll see Berlenbach lost, drew, struggled, or failed to get the KO. Berlenbach was in his prime in 1925 the same year Greb beat the hell out of Mickey Walker. I don't see Berlenbach beating that version of Greb. By 1926 Greb was fading but Berlenbach was growing erratic as well and Id still favor that Greb over that Berlenbach. They tried to get Greb to take a short notice fight with Berlenbach not long after Greb's last fight with Flowers but at this point Greb had secretly retired and was already scheduled to have his bad eye removed for fear of the blindness spreading to his good eye via sympathetic opthalmia and declined the offer. A few months later Berlenbach was knocked out by Mike McTigue which says a lot more about how far Berlenbach had faded than how good McTigue was at that point.
