Thomas Patrick Ward
Tommy, who is by the way, a really nice fella, as is his brother Martin, is boxing tonight in Kansas USA, against Jesse Angel Hernandez, for the vacant NABA USA Super-Bantamweight Title. Doesn't even appear on the Boxrec schedule. An ex British Champion, and unbeaten in 25, what more does this lad have to do to get some attention? He is a beautiful boxer. He may or may not win tonight (I think he will) but it is about time we got behind him. I'm bored with all the posts about Joshua. Come on Tommy!

Why are stoppages so important? The guy is a beautiful boxer. Does that not count just as much?

I know what you mean jamamb. Bit like 20/20 as opposed to test cricket. Some go for excitement others like the more subtle stuff. I do like a hitter but I also really appreciate boxers who can dominate over the full course. And yes, Tommy is a really excellent boxer.
I also get what you mean about Ennis-Brown. I was at ringside when he beat Glenn Foot. I am a great admirer of Glenn but Ennis-Brown outboxed him.

Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
he IS beautiful, but then the "beautiful boxers" are called that because they don't get the stoppages.
I get the feeling he'll be win at least 3 of the first 4 rounds against almost anyone in history, but doubt he's physical enough to turn that in to wins over 12 rounds.
Great boxer vs puncher match up tonight for sure..
Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
This thread has me looking at him. Seems the in-ring artist, he does. Watching Alvaro Rodriguez fight.
Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
ward super sharp...boxing ths guys head off and now beatng him up too. lovely left hook kd. opponent seems very tentative now.
Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
Very impressive from Ward.
He's clearly not a banger, but "hits hard enough"

Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
Hernandez's corner don't even know what round it is.
Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
wards landed almost 200 punches more in a 10 round fght accordng to the punch stats...which seems about rght. good stuff and well rounded showng
Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
ward wins ud. i imagine thats exactly the performance he and his team were picturng

Good boxer but doesn't have the power to mix it with the elite
Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
You say that, but he hurt Hernandez several times, had him backing up and might've KOd him if the knockdown had been at the start of the round.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑16 Feb 2019, 00:02 Good boxer but doesn't have the power to mix it with the elite

Super win for Ward. A question. What is the NABA - USA Super Bantamweight Title ? Do you not have to be American to fight for this title ?

Lets not pretend Hernandez was much, and he was dropped 2 fights earlier by Ernesto Garza III (in what looks like a weird decision with one judge having it 95-93 to Garza and one going 97-93 to Hernandez).skanksta wrote: ↑16 Feb 2019, 00:23You say that, but he hurt Hernandez several times, had him backing up and might've KOd him if the knockdown had been at the start of the round.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑16 Feb 2019, 00:02 Good boxer but doesn't have the power to mix it with the elite
Power isn't the be all and end all (Josh Warrington and Daniel Roman are showing that), but it is a pretty tough division with Vargas, Roman, Navarrete, Dogboe, Doheny, Kameda (who also lacks power in the division), Wake, Iwasa, Oguni, Castro (who just upset Servania). All several levels above the likes of Hernandez and Dickens, and a performance against Hernandez tells us nothing about how he'd cope with the divisional elite.
Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
all ill say is that if you dont posess good KO power then you will not win a fight late on if you are a good few rounds/points down on the cards. Its impossible.

Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
Ward put on a clinic, Hernandez was shite but the commetary at Showtime loved Ward so maybe basing himself out there could be an option, it went as well as he could've hoped

Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
Hernandez put in as poor a performance as I’ve seen in years.Awful.
Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
Could that be because of how he fought? Great fighters can make good fighters look bad, yes? I did notice Hernandez having some sort of foot/ankle issues during the fight. Wasn't sure if he was complaining about having his foot stepped on, or discomfort. I thought Ward put on a clinic. The kid really seems to LOVE being in the ring performing his craft.Chinny banger wrote: ↑16 Feb 2019, 14:23 Hernandez put in as poor a performance as I’ve seen in years.Awful.

As is Ward. He has barely lost a round in his pro career. That performance last night was legit world class. No ifs or buts. It was a clinic. I also know what he’s been doing to Coldwell fighters in sparring too.
This boy will win a world title. This year. One million per cent.

Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
Ward struggled with Dickens and basically just showed pillow power against pretty much a journeyman level fighter
Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
he dropped the guy hard and hurt the guy a few other times and had him tentatve. not a big htter but that was more then pllow power. though at top level its a whole nother challenge.
id say fght a euro level guy or equvalent first and then lets reassess. i dont see him as clearly world class yet and he stll has a level or two to prove hmself at before that.

Re: Thomas Patrick Ward
I doubt he’ll be going the Euro route, Showtime had an optional one fight extension if he won that, so there’s a good chance he’ll be back on ShoBox fighting someone from that side of the pond.
He done a full spar camp with Warrington pre Frampton fight and heard he never looked out of place.
Jazza is a decent fighter but if you watch that fight It was almost 2 years ago. TPW has improved 5 fold since then.
TPW is the real deal.
