On a serious note, bona dea what a record Wilde has 132-3-1 -- Other than his last two fights (which I assume he was past it) his only lose was to Tancy Lee and that he avenged. Little Chocolate has his hands full with this guy.

In the blue Corner weighing at 118 Ibs and standing at 5'5", we have the former WBC Super Bantamweight Champion and two time Featherweight Champion Wilfredo "Bazooka" Gomez!!! With a record of 44-3-1 and being one of the few boxers to have over 30 KOs in a row; our two division champion has victories over the likes of Carlos Zarate and Lupe Pintor.

Now making his way to the ring, we have in the red corner weighing at 113 Ibs and standing at 5'5". A 5 time Light Flyweight Champion, who today will be considered the underdog;" Manitas de Piedra" Michael Carbajal!! Having victories over fellow contender Humberto Gonzales and Jorge Arce he plans on making some noise in this tournament.

announcer correction! Gomez is a one time Featherweight Champ, but he did get the WBA Super Featherweight title. This makes him a three division champ instead of two. Sorry!!

I have to admit I saw Gomez live (in his next to last fight) at the Miami Beach Convention Center so I am kind of bias on this one.

An anecdote: Gomez being from the old school appeared in the ring wearing classic (old fashion) boxing boots but it was 1988 and there was no rosin box for him to coat his boots. He spent the first three rounds slipping all over the ring, and when he actually fell flat on his face they decided to stop the fight and let him change his boots (I wonder if that was legal). Then he was able to set down on his punches and it was soon over.

Winner by 5th round knockout is Wilfredo Gomez!! Carbajal pursued his opponent for the first 3 rounds, but then suffered a devastating right in the 4th, sending him to the canvas. Carbajal would survive the 4th however Gomez would pursue into the 5th, bludgening Carbajal, and knocking out his opponent.

APerno: McGovern, but a really tough fight; and a really tough fight to predict.

The fight would be difficult to stage, in McGovern's day it would have been scheduled for 25 rounds (maybe even 45 rounds) and McGovern would have fought at a pace congruent to that length; Villa would have been fighting at a faster pace over 15 rounds. The fighters really don't match up, the pacing styles would have been off; number of punches thrown would have been considerably different.

I had to do diligence on McGovern, as I didn't know much about. So, knowing more about Villa, I'll stick to my first instincts in light of being outvoted. Villa, Decision.

Lopez's titles are all over the street; WBA, WBO, IBF WBC -- only the WBC seems to have any clout, several successful defenses, but all at Mini-weight, so he is the guy moving up. Galaxy was campaigning at Super Flyweight which is two weights up . . . but wait . . .

Mini-weight is 110; Super Flyweight is 115, so why in god's name do they have a third weight class in between? 112 I guess???

Even when I wrestled in high school we jumped from 98 to 106 to 115 to 123 usually an 8 to 9 pound jump between weight classes, a two pound jump seems absurd. Anything for another belt, and a another excuse to collect a sanctioning body fee I guess.

OK thank you, that makes more sense; my eyes are going --- he let Rosendo Alvarez fight over weight in their second fight (nice guy) --- then then he jumped to light flyweight at 108. OK!
