Ray Austin (49) scheduled to fight Feb-15
What is with all these 40+ HW's fighting again? Ray Austin, who hasn't fought in three years is making a sort of comeback at 49 years old against Robert Alfonso in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Maybe we are going to see a WBS Geyserweight Champ be crowned among the many golden oldies. Oliver McCall awaits!
Re: Ray Austin (49) scheduled to fight Feb-15
Everyone always mentions Golota as someone who turned victory into defeat and he did against Grant and Bowe.
But Austin was ahead on points against Solis and Stiverne and collapsed with minutes left. I think he did the same against Levin too.

I remember Golota's corner between rounds first telling him to keep his punches up, and then later in the fight telling him to only go for the head! He was such an imbecile.

It used to be the case that ray Austin could not be stopped with conventional weapons.
Now I fear this is no longer the case.

I attended the Ray Austin vs Gilbert Martinez fight at Bally's Las Vegas back in 2004. Austin won via 4th round TKO.
LMAO, I was sitting at ringside with Herbie Hide seated just behind me ... Hide was yelling at Austin with some hilarious insults. It was like a professional comedy act.

I get the impression Andrew's problems were psychological not stupidity.oogiebe wrote: ↑11 Feb 2019, 12:54I remember Golota's corner between rounds first telling him to keep his punches up, and then later in the fight telling him to only go for the head! He was such an imbecile.

Ray Austin lost last night to Robert Alphonso (18-0, 8 KO's). It went the full 6 rounds , all 3 scorecards had it a 60-54 shutout.

The 'best' part was the ref telling him one more and you're out and golota immediately unleashing a 3 punch Ric flair lowblow combooogiebe wrote: ↑11 Feb 2019, 12:54I remember Golota's corner between rounds first telling him to keep his punches up, and then later in the fight telling him to only go for the head! Really hard to imagine how dumb and undisciplined he was. He could have been real good.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑18 Feb 2019, 01:02The 'best' part was the ref telling him one more and you're out and golota immediately unleashing a 3 punch Ric flair lowblow combooogiebe wrote: ↑11 Feb 2019, 12:54I remember Golota's corner between rounds first telling him to keep his punches up, and then later in the fight telling him to only go for the head! Hey I was at that card when I was visiting Vegas from the UK. I remember chatting to Hide who was being really ignorant and me giving up. I shook hands with Al Ice Cole, Jeremy Williams who were both polite but seemed either punch drunk or high. Also saw Kevin Kelley. But the guy that was absolute class was Eddie Mustafa Muhammad who I had a pic with but unfortunately the pic is lost. He was so decent. I had a chat with Ray Austin after his victory and he was pleasant also. The highlight for me though was one of the insults yelled at Martinez 'throw a pork chop at him'chuck9788 wrote: ↑11 Feb 2019, 15:40 I attended the Ray Austin vs Gilbert Martinez fight at Bally's Las Vegas back in 2004. There are a few fights somewhat similar to this matchup on the upcoming Spence vs Mikey Garcia card.
Chris Arreola is fighting some unbeaten Heavyweight, and Charles Martin is too. I figure Arreola is gonna lose his fight. I think Martin can take the dude he's matched with though.
Both are trying to use the name of an old recognizable Heavyweight to springboard into notoriety though just like Alphonso was doing to a lesser degree
