Best Finishers in Boxing
Best Finishers in Boxing
The thread on big punchers had me thinking about how highly I'd rate Joshua's power. The answer is I'm not sure. One thing I was sure of though, is that Joshua is a very good finisher. Other than Whyte being saved by the bell in round 1 and when he punched himself out against the vastly more experienced Klitschko, pretty much every other time that he's genuinely wobbled someone he seems to close the show quickly. The Povetkin finish, for example, was clinical.
I rate Callum Smith highly in this regard. He can be guilty of coasting, but when he does hurt his opponent he's an excellent finisher. The first round stoppages of Fielding and Mohoumadi are evidence of this. His best though has to be the final assault on Groves.
My last shout would be Usyk. He's showed 2 different types of finish as well. Was relentless in his stoppage of Huck, seemed to throw continuously for ages. Just as impressive was his patience and ability to pick the perfect punch to flatten Bellew.
Who else would you rate as a top class finisher? Doesn't necessarily have to be a massive puncher, just someone who smells blood and finishes the fight when the chance arises.

On the flip side I'd question the finishing ability of someone like Thurman. He's capable of hurting good fighters but in my opinion lacks finishing ability.

Lemieux is a good finisher. Times his finishing punch well. But can only land on guys that are stood in front of him.

100% He is. He's in his prime now and it would be a shame if we don't get to see him against the very best.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑17 Feb 2019, 14:28I'm really hoping he gets the fights. I think he's historically great.

Not a massive fan of Carl Froch himself but he is one of the best finishers I have seen.
Just need to watch the Taylor fight. Final round and had Taylor hurt, composed and great distance to get his punches off. Left it a little late but he knew exactly what he was doing.

atm craws in a class of his own for skill + talent and natural fighting instinct, quite some distance for the next guy imo, shame he hasnt gotten really any big or very interesting fights but still time for that
one thing about froch is he had that grinding, high stamina style where he would really start to take it out of his opponents and drain them , so it made finishing them easier when they finally started to really crumble. a lot of fights i watched where he looked mediocre early but you just knew hed be coming on to put the guy through hell

Re: Best Finishers in Boxing
ya davis is a good one so far, in all his title fights he got the stoppage within 1 round of scoring the first kd
Re: Best Finishers in Boxing
From the past I'd say Henry Cooper and Ralph Charles

I agree in regard to Crawford currently. Historically, not may top Julian Jackson.
Re: Best Finishers in Boxing
Tyson weren't bad in his pomp.
David Haye was also pretty decent.

AJ has never let anyone of the hook
Re: Best Finishers in Boxing
Oscar De La Hoya was a beast when he had someone hurt, as was SRL. He had a real mean streak.

yep, Crawford for me is the best out there right now.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑17 Feb 2019, 14:28I'm really hoping he gets the fights. I think he's historically great.
Historically I reckon Ray Leonard was pretty good in his first career phase and for Brits you have to give Nigel Benn a shout
